I see that Boris has announced a one off £1.8 billion cash boost for NHS hospitals.

Although Brexit has not yet happened – I look forward to him making this announcement every 5 weeks after the end of October this year.

Why? Do you like money being wasted?
Question Author
It’s the money (amount) on the side of a big red bus.
I know what you are getting at.

So you would be happy for all that money to be wasted and thrown a the NHS (even though that is not what it said)?

Perhaps Boris should start a weekly on-line petition to choose what the £350 million is spent on.
What was written on the side of the bus and what people thought was written on the side of the bus are two different things.

I would rather see old age care and pensions addressed than a failing NHS. Seven levels of hellish administration and over £100 to put up a notice board.

However I should imagine the first 6 months to a year the money would be better spent on propping up the institutions and organisations that rely on ‘EU’ funding. So they can pull their fingers out and sort out how they are going to survive in a competitive world.

Subsidies for genuine farmers (not the lords and ladies with huge estates milking the system mind you) and slowly getting our fishing fleets back up and running.

There are a myriad of better causes than a badly run NHS I would rather fund.

As Young has said...that wasn't written on the bus.

"One of the masterminds behind the infamous slogan"

thats all he was a slogan PR person, his views on Brexit are irrelevent, he was paid to come up with a slogan...
Boris , and The Tory "Magic Money Tree" 3.6 Bn for Deprived Towns ,£300 Ml for Scotland ,£1 Bn for the Police Force,£1.8 Bn for the NHS, and the list goes on and on, No Political Party in Power Spends this kind of Money , Mid Term . Does this say the Cons are running scared and preparing for a Sudden G/E. ? , if so will there be a note in the safe for the New Elected Governments Chancellor , which will not be a "Tory Goverment" saying Sorry, there is no money left just a huge debt, Think Boris is heading for a Bus Crash.
the annual budget for the NHS currently runs at about £130Bn. at less than 2% of that £1.8Bn is a drop in the bucket by comparison, and isn't realistically going to do anything, judging by the amount needed for maintenance backlogs mentioned on the news just now....
This is apparently to be used to upgrade 20 hospitals, anyone know which one they are?

We're at number 18, look forward to getting the money ! ( Highly unlikely...):
Sorting out the care system will make a bigger impact on the NHS anyway...
Rowan is right - a couple of years ago this was quoted, 'The Nuffield Trust states: 'Money and focus should be used more strategically. 3.6 per cent of patients account for 37 per cent of time in NHS beds. Finding ways to safely treat these people outside hospital should be a major priority.'' Don't think the situation has improved.
Yet another silly post about ‘the big red bus’.
DTC, this has been known for the past at least 20 years. I will have been retired from the NHS for 12 years this autumn and I spent much of the last 10 years of my working life trying to address this problem. There are myriads ways to do this, a metric tonne of good practice that can be adopted and copied (including quite a lot that I was involved in developing) and no appetite for doing it because its not sexy medicine. Its not groundbreaking research, attractive to the media, or miraculous recovery but its the stuff that will save the NHS money.
Normal practice to win a full term in office, dangle a few carrots, and dish a few sweeties out.

Of course the other parties, if they were in power, wouldnt do exactly the same in this position. I still hold my original view on the election date 7/11.
