I haven't read all 300 posts... but fwiw, I think he did the right thing in an unpredictable situation. I suspect... on a man he would have put his hand in the middle of his chest to push him back, but instinctively wouldn't on a woman, so it looks worse from the angle shown.
As ever, it is about context. If he had gone out for a meal with his wife and led her out that way, it would have been awful. As a surprise invader approaching, where he could have had no idea if she was armed, it seems reasonable to remove her.

Fortunately, behaving in a stupid way does not entitle someone who disagrees with you to physically assault you as a consequence - just as well - some on here would be black and blue permanently!

I'm not sure that is entirely fair.

I would suggest that in such a situation, most people are too surprised to react quickly, which is not to say that they lack the courage to do so, merely the time it takes to act, which for some is quicker than others.
