They should bring back the birch for this type of crime.
From the link Danny
//Two murders have now been linked to gangs which brag about scores online//

I would suggest the birch is a rather too lenient escape!
Terrible culture.
with their moronic mindset they'd probably consider the birch a point scorer
I spoke to man who had had the birch and asked him how it had affected him.He told me that if any thought of committing a crime came into his head he felt the pain of the birch in his back.He never transgressed again until the day he died.

I agree the birch is too lenient, like the game of chess they should be removed from the board, until checkmate is achieved.
I know of a game in a contact centre that involved scoring points if you managed to stop an immigrants benefits - actually they didn't have to be immigrants - they just had to have a foreign accent.
it's da cultcha innit!
Rockrose, does your experience justify this?
The birch ? These people are murderers, you think a stick is going to be any deterrent to them? Arrest, long prison sentences, if the verdict is eg. 10 years they must serve 10 years .
Well when they all kill each other hopefully it can be over.

Since birching was abolished in Britain in 1948 however still carried out in British prisons as late as 1962, you are talking about a completely different era than it is today.
No my experience does not justify this - I didn't say it did!
"like the game of chess they should be removed from the board, until checkmate is achieved."

When if one piece gets to the other side?
Rockrose, pleased to hear it.

One doesn't need to 'get to the other side' to achieve checkmate.
//Anne, I am not talking about stabbings that result in death.//

Carrying a blade with intent to cause injury is a potential death. Do they carefully avoid the jugular, femoral, cartoid, and aorta when they lash out with machete knives. These are vicious thugs not surgeons.

Care to show us proof of your statement?
Retro, I agree with that but the type of punishment meted out for that type of crime is not a deterrent, suffering physical pain might be.
