/// Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased. ///

/// 'Soon as those good enough to point out it's possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that's it. ///

Why did he need for this obvious racist insult to be pointed out to him?

Lucky Donald Trump or Tommy Robinson didn't do it. No rubbers on ends of pencils would have erased that!

Great to see how many of the top-rated comments are in condemnation of Baker and support his sacking.

Had to have it pointed out to him?

Liar.

Anyone adult knows that racists compare black people to apes. Danny Baker worked on TalkSport....had he never heard of monkey chants and bananas being thrown onto pitches during football games?

What sickens me about these creeps is the fact that they try and convince us that they are the victim.

They are not.
You don't know that, Spath!!
//demonstrates how easily white people can fall into expressing racist sentiments even if they don’t mean to.//

Bag of nonsense.

What did this tweet mean then?
You're right umm, i don't. But it's an educated guess.
Agreed SP he's not a stupid person, in fact he's very clever and he will spin himself as the victim of a harmless tweet that people took out of context and had no sense of humour about- when in my opinion he knew full well all of the racist connotations that went with it before he posted it.
"What did this tweet mean then?"

SP, i agree there is nothign else the tweet could have refered to.

However IF, it was a genuine accident (and it could have been) then it does demonstrate how ignorant white people can be to the suppression and abuse that black people have experienced.

/// Or ignorant because they are white.. which isn't an insult, it just is how it is. People can't help being ignorant. ///

What are you saying then, "people can't help being white"?
I thought that was obvious, but yes, in a sense, people can't help being ignorant to black history and culture because they are white.
I mean i'm not saying all are, because you can study whatever and talk to whoever but on a whole, i would stick to that concept, that black people know their history better than a white person would. They also know how they feel as a member of society and they know how society treats them. A white person literally can't understand that as well, because they've not experienced it.
Of course white people won't really understand in the same way. I had honestly never heard of a monkey being used as a racist insult (I don't watch football) until I saw it on AB. Ignorant maybe, but I wouldn't have collated the two myself.
I wish people would *** off with the 'black history' and live for today.

Believe me, the world would be a better place.

/// it seems odder to automatically compare a chimp to a mixed race person. ///

Would it also seem odd for a banana to be throw at the feet of a mixed race footballer?
Thank you for sharing that Pixie.
First comment I had removed on here was about NFL players 'taking the knee'. I couldn't understand why it was removed but it dawned on me that I'd used the expression 'monkeying about'.
Sometimes it's the mind it goes into, not the mind it comes out of.
It's knowing your audience. That's why celebs shouldn't tweet.
"You have no idea of the trauma black people have received in very recent history" and I'd hazard a likely bet that neither do you Spath, I doubt you are...people of colour
Talbot without history we wouldn't be where we are today. It's important to remember the ill affects history had, so we can try to steer clear of them in the modern age / future. It's not just black history, it's history, because without the white man, the black man wouldn't have been suppressed. We need to acknowledge our ignorance in history, and sometimes in the modern day to help make a better future for all.
Only Danny Baker knows whether the intent was racist - I don't think it was, he just doesn't seem to be the type.

It was stupid, but not intentionally racist.

I pretty much agree with everything Andy Hughes has said.
Pixie the term 'monkey' is not confined to football hooligans. It had been around for a long time and was an aspersion that black Africans came from the jungle.
"and I'd hazard a likely bet that neither do you Spath, I doubt you are...people of colour"

I don't, correct. However i'm not acting as if i do. What i do know is the notorious comparison of black people to primates in history an how awful it is, so much so that even a slight comparison in the modern age is totally unacceptable.
