I think you are appearing to be obtuse on purpose here, and if it's to back up your argument, it's not working.

As I see it, this was a stupid thing done in a moment of stupidity, and Danny Baker should have apologised profusely instead of trying to use the age-old, and always inappropriate response, that people who are offended simply lack a sense of humour.

By taking that line, he compounded the offence, and the result is his sacking- inappropriate in my view, but it's done.
