I'm not.

// A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed officers received a report last month of 'xenophobic comments made online' in relation to Mr Mooney's Instagram post.

The spokesman added: 'A full investigation was conducted and it was established that no crime had been committed.

'However, the matter was recorded as a hate incident. No further police action was required.' //

Clearly the Police have plenty of time and money if they can do this

FGS.....No!
No - but I would be willing to bet that the 'offended' party is a student!
I'm glad I had the sense to read your post again before replying, because for half a second I thought it said "I am" rather than "I'm not", and I was, shall we say, surprised by that.

Is this a real story??
A complaint was made and the police were obliged to investigate it. They concluded it wasn’t a hate crime, and recorded it as an incident.
The complainant is fool. The line is jokey and not meant to be taken seriously. It does not offend me because it was meant in jest.
I am offended by his dress sense, or lack of.
Agree with baza...A bit of a festooned wonker.
Gromit - // It does not offend me because it was meant in jest. //

That defence is sadly used on many occasions where offence has been taken at something.

The originator of the offence is quick to advise that - because he or she did not mean offence, there is none there, which of course, is not only nonsense, it is an arrogant position to take.

If it were so that no harm was done because none was meant, then there would be a 99% reduction in road deaths instantly, because no-one intends to run over a stranger on purpose. Sadly though, because no harm is meant does not automatically mean that none occurs.
I hope this works.

Can’t get my head around the road traffic analogy.

Someone quotes a comedy line from a well known film and someone is offended.
They should publish the name of the complainant and we can all laugh at his or her lack of a sense of humour.
Is anti English hate crime better known as, racism?
Not offended in the slightest, life's too short.

No...it's known as acceptable.
Gromit - // Can’t get my head around the road traffic analogy. //

It means, just because I didn't mean to hurt you does not mean you are not hurt by what I have done.

To offend someone, and then add insult to injury by telling everyone that the reason why they are offended is because they don't possess a sense of humour - like you do - is an arrogant attitude.

It implies a simple lack of empathy and care about upsetting other people because you feel you have a right to say what you want where you want to whom you want.
To be offended by someone's opinion of me, I have to first have respect for the offender.
I'm offended by the fact that the police waste time and money "investigating" this sort of tripe. By the by, does the fact that I'm offended mean that I'm going to get run over by a car?...That's a puzzler isn't it?
"No...it's known as acceptable."

OK, then the comment was acceptable.

I was not offended in the slightest. How long have the English been making jokes about the Welsh, Irish and Scottish? As said in the article, "It is all totally ridiculous, a storm in a teacup if ever there was one."
Sanmac i agree. This should have been resolved within the University and then if they discovered an actual crime had been committed they should have then consoled the police.
Andy Hughes,
I think Kathyan’s excellent post sums it up best.

Only if you can't make sense of a simple analogy.
