Well we need to save the space in prison for all those hooligans smoking joints don't we..
It is not often that our views chime AOG, but I am entirely with you on this one.
I'm surprised that the prosecution have not appealed against the sentence.
yes, dam savage should be locked up.
Looks like the judge placed too much emphasis on his 'guilty' plea...

/// Looks like the judge placed too much emphasis on his 'guilty' plea... ///

Could he plea any differently since he was actually caught with a knife in his possession?
Ennit
AOG - absolutely,he could have claimed it was planted in his coat before he walked the streets,self-defence as he may have had a recent threat (mitigation),mental health illness, etc.
Friends in the police force tell me that when this happens – which is all too often – for them it is soul destroying – and I believe them.
Can't the arrest the judge for preventing the course of justice? lol
Apparently he went missing from Enfield for some reason in Aug '16.
The whole Judiciary and sentencing guidelines needs a shake up.

As a country we need to work out how we deal with those that break the law and which laws we consider severe and require some serious porridge. If we need more jails then build them, the population has grown so it stands to reason we need more since there will always be a percentage who disregard the law.

At the moment it seems allover the place.
Going to jail for carrying a knife seems excessive to me, even Shakespeare carried a sword or dagger. Most certainly, from the late-14th century onwards carrying a sword every day became a fashionable thing to do. Oxford undergraduates carried swords at one time, and could be fined for not doing so.
Times change Khandro.

Besides it would have to be carrying a knife without purpose or carrying not in a case or something, otherwise we would have no chefs or builders left!

I and most English kids of my day carried a sheath knife on our belts, in fact it was also part of the Boy Scouts uniform, along with a small axe and a long Ash pole, I also possessed a set of small and balanced throwing knives.

It never entered our heads to inflict harm on anyone with them, the greatest 'crime' we ever used them for was carving our names on poor defenceless trees.

But we lived in a different country then to what the UK has become today.
Khandro //Going to jail for carrying a knife seems excessive to me//
Carrying a knife is not an offence per se.Carrying a knife without good reason is.
As of December 29, 2017, UK prisons were running slightly below maximum capacity, with 2,326 places available.

It costs roughly £37k a year to 'house' a prisoner x 2326 = £86m EXTRA a year. Anyone think this has a bearing?

Then cut the funding to the prison and pass it on to the Police Forces.

I am sure the prisons don't need TVs and game equipment etc etc.
Nice idea, in principle, but I think that horse has bolted, AOG. It would be a brave Govt who took away those facilities and risked riots / harm to warders etc.
