Had the previous President gone to the trouble of twice meeting the North Korean leader to try and come to some agreement over US sanctions and North Korean nuclear weapons, the press and media would have been praising him from the hilltops.

Notice also how the Guardian have chosen to call the President of the United States by his surname, yet have politely chosen to call the North Korean leader by his first name, Kim (how sweet of them)

Kim is his family name.
isn't Kim his surname ?
Kim is not his first name, it is his family name so they have used exactly the same for both.
in those parts AOG the last name comes first!
The simple fact is, it's impossible to judge if President Trump hates the media more than the media hate him.

Politicians know that courting a relationship with the media is like being famous - it's running on a barbed-wire treadmill, you need to know exactly how to run, or it will cut you to pieces.

President Trump has not learned that he is not Donald Trump TV star anymore, he is a politician now.

Except he isn't.

He has no political experience, shows no signs of even thinking about learning to be one, or understanding how the political system works.

President Trump thinks he is a fantastic guy, and he is genuinely confused and hurt when everyone else does not perceive him in that way. It doesn't matter if they are women he is meeting for the first time, or reporters, or world leaders, he approaches everyone in exactly the same way - they must like him a lot because he is a fantastic guy.

Unfortunately, in tandem with that deep sense of self-wonder is a seriously thin skin.

Most politicians who have risen even to middle ranks, have already had enough experience of hostility, media and otherwise, to grow a skin as thick as several rhinos. President Trump, not being, and not becoming a politician, lacks that experience, and is totally wounded and furious in equal measure about every slight, real or perceived, than comes his way.

He hits back through unconsidered and nasty Tweets, and the media simply goad him even more, and so it goes on.

President Trump has made some limited progress with North Korea, but that is a lot more to do with the pragmatism of the Korean leader and government that the all round fabulousness of the President - but guess what he thinks the reasons are?

That is why he is again baffled when the Koreans walk away from negotiations. It's because this is not building a gold course, or fronting a TV show, this is world stage top level politics, and President Trump believes his own personal fabulousness should carry him through to get what he wants.

It won't - be he will never learn from that, because he is surrounded by other non-politicians telling him how fabulous he is.

President Trump hasn't the knowledge, the experience, or the personality to be a President - he was elected by a fluke, even ne didn't think he'd win, and how he must sit it out until he can go back to his business world where his delusions matter a lot less.

Thanks for clearing the name issue up, but since his name is Kim Jong-un, I would have thought his surname was Jong-un.

Still no praise for Donald managing to gain friendly meetings between North and South Korea and the States.

Surely that must be worth some praise?

Sorry I notice that I forgot to supply a link.

AOG - // Still no praise for Donald managing to gain friendly meetings between North and South Korea and the States. //

I am happy to praise anyone and everyone involved in getting the two leaders together, but since President Trump is not one of them it's difficult to praise him for something he hasn't done.
Nice rant AH, if you hate him so much it must mean President Trump is one of the best Presidents they have had for a while. He is different and not a NWO liberal stooge lake the last few.

May he continue to drain the swamp, I just wish we had someone doing the same here.

Go Donald MAGA !
YMB - // Nice rant AH, if you hate him so much it must mean President Trump is one of the best Presidents they have had for a while. He is different and not a NWO liberal stooge lake the last few. //

It isn't a 'rant' it is a considered view of the President based on what I have seen and read about him. Personally I don't 'hate' him at all, I find him interesting, but he is not suitable to be a President.

As to the notion that my negative view makes him great - that's the way he thinks as well!
Too long to read - it's a rant as far as I am concerned.
People dislike Trump partly because of the sort of person he is and partly because of what he does. It’s not that people don’t support what he does just because they don’t like him!
In that respect he is different say from Hillary Clinton who was largely disliked because of who she was: her policies were largely either ignored or criticised because of that.
It’s quite telling that so much of Trump’s support is negative: a lot of people only seem to like him because he apparently annoys people they don’t like - which actually is pretty damning all round.
What might Trump have going for him? Well the fact that he does things “differently” might be a good thing and actually I’ve seen much slack being cut to him by the so-called “liberal” media in that regard, far from him being damned out of hand. The trouble is that he does things differently the same way an unqualified electrician you called to your house for a change might “do things differently”.
Not much point peeing off your annoying neighbours if your house burns down :-)

What President has gone to the trouble to talk to our Enemy leaders?

/// President Trump has made some limited progress with North Korea, but that is a lot more to do with the pragmatism of the Korean leader and government that the all round fabulousness of the President ///

Ah!! And we all know how pragmatic Kim Jong-un and his government are.

/// That is why he is again baffled when the Koreans walk away from negotiations. ///

Wasn't it President Trump who walked away from negotiations, yes it may be strange to you seeing that our leaders are not strong enough to walk away from negotiations with the EU.

But that is what the hated of Trump is all about how he managed to beat the American establishment by promising what the majority of the American people want, unlike our referendum, the result which turned our establishment on it's head, so much so that it is calling for a second vote because the first one didn't go their way.
In fact many of the things Trump wants (I guess I’m thinking of the wall) are not supported by a majority of Americans. That isn’t a reason not to do them, of course, but worth pointing out.
AOG - // … yes it may be strange to you seeing that our leaders are not strong enough to walk away from negotiations with the EU. //

Why would it be 'strange' to me?

That's exactly how I feel - President Trump honestly believes that his 'doing things differently' is a good thing - a measure of just how out of his depth he is in the world of politics.
YMB - // Too long to read - it's a rant as far as I am concerned. //

If it is indeed 'too long to read' - then how do you know if it is a 'rant' or not, since you will not have reached the end to find out?
andy-hughes, since you claim to know what and how Mr Trump thinks one could be forgiven for gaining the impression that you know him personally – and that you’re well-schooled in both the world of business and in the workings of international politics. You don’t – and you’re not.
//May he continue to drain the swamp//

Draining it of what? If anything Trump seems to be just building his own swamp, what with the number of crooks and liars he's brought in to Washington.

You can't just spout soundbites.
To answer the question, because some people just love to hate - and if there's a bandwagon rolling you can bet your boots they'll be on it.

Rather in the same way that you don't know what the Muslim fraternity has in its plans for the future of Western civilisation, but you still feel free to offer a view?

I don't have a problem with that notion, it's a shame you do, but thanks for pointing out what I already know about myself - perhaps you could do the same about yourself next time you post about Islam?

Just in the interest if even-handedness.
