Out of the blue my son has proposed to his gf. They are both early twenties. Within days she has gone into full bridezilla mode. Has already chosen bridesmaids dresses, venue Etc all within 7 days!
But.... she’s told me I have to wear a hat. I have never ever worn a hat, and I would feel really uncomfortable wearing one. They just don’t suit me. I thought I would be able to choose my own outfit. I’m not saying she is right or wrong as I have never been in this position but what are your thoughts??

Awww, firstly congratulations to them and secondly wear a hat it won't kill you, lots of weddings specify hats if they are formal. I imagine you'll be free to choose your outfit but she's asked for a hat for ladies which isn't unusual x

Thankyou, I just wanted to feel comfortable lol.
I have to admit, I'd not want to wear a hat for the same reasons.
But, I'd consider a fascinator, and that only. Would that suit you?
I knew I'd seen a similar question this year and have found it, have a read through (I haven't re-read so don't know what I put but probably to do what the bride wanted).

Yes I’d definitely consider a fascinator. I just don’t want to wear my hair up - it’s blonde and below shoulder length and with most hats women have their hair up. But I guess not with a fascinator. If that’s acceptable lol...
I think your son needs to think very carefully about his future.

I’m quite shocked as how she has gone completely OTT in a matter of days. She has a spreadsheet and everything!! She’s even having her dogs as bridesmaids!!
She’s even having her dogs as bridesmaids!!

LOL, have they got to wear hat's to, Smow.
Well her bridesmaids aren't going to outshine her . Sit back, say nothing :-)
Question Author
I’m going to do whatever she wants, just wanted opinions guys. Will not upset her x
Is this the girlfriend who was 'a breath of fresh air' a little while ago? If so, she has changed.

If every other woman will be wearing a hat, perhaps you'd feel a bit wrong if you didn't. I know what you mean though. I'm glad my son's wedding didn't require hats.

If you really have to though, go to a decent shop with a truthful friend and try on different styles. You might surprisingly find something that's ok.

No different son - I have three!
If you'd be happy-ish with a fascinator, just tell them that you'll wear that or bare head. Their choice then.
Any man whose fiancee behaves independently like this about a wedding should run a mile, she isn't seeing it as their wedding but her look-at-me day and if she gets away with it she'll be the same all their lives.
She doesn't tell you what to wear, hat, colour, style, nothing, you can go in your jeans if you wish, it's none of her business! I detest stories about bridezillas, they're like that because people indulge them.
If you're going to do what she wants are you prepared to let her dictate to you for the rest of your life? Do what you want, not what she wants.
People should probably calm down and consider history.

I dare say it'll turn out just dandy in the end.
Smile and nod a lot, I'm sure you'll find someting nice and you don't have to wear your hair up with a hat if you choose the right style.

heaven help the children who will not be born according to the spreadsheet she'll have for them.''Oh, I can't have contractions for another 2 weeks''
or
''why haven't you arrived yet, I've got it all planned out''

strewth, Smow, you are the mother of the groom, has she forgotten about him? Wear what you bloody like and feel comfortable, you'll do him proud xx
Question Author
She is a nice girl but seems to have had a complete personality transplant. I mean who has 9 bridesmaids??
Does she have nine dogs then, Smow ?
