Interesting replies. I will stick with "it"
Are you referring to her as 'it' because she is a murderer or because she is a transgender?
It's only daft to those people who have either not considered or not properly researched the variety and richness of human experience. It's clear, from anyone who has read about, for example, many other cultures, that human identity cannot, and should not, be viewed as so clearly defined as "male" and "female", corresponding purely to biological concerns. It's sad that we're talking about this in the context of a convicted murderer, whose right to respect is already on shaky ground as it is, but it should be possible to separate your contempt for them for that horrific crime, to your thoughts of their personal identity.

The fact is that gender identity is not so easily determined as staring at someone's crotch. Human experience since time immemorial has taught us this -- just because you personally didn't notice in the 50s doesn't mean it wasn't true, but it was clearly better-hidden.

As for the remark about wanting to be a singer, there's no comparison, and that's best ascribed to wilful ignorance rather than a serious attempt to contribute to discussion.
Rpckrpse, why are you referring to him as 'she'? He's a bloke.
Crikey! I meant 'Rockrose'
Because she wishes she wasn't a him and I have no issue with referring to her as a she.
Jom, //the variety and richness of human experience//

The experience is in his head but according to you we all have to humour him. Why?
'Rockrose, but he is a him. Why do you humour him?
I'm out of time to talk about it this morning, N, so I might get back to you later. But, to be honest, it's probably easier to refer to my myriad answers on AB over the last few years.

Gender identity is a load of old pony, absolute rubbish.

Male or female, nothing else, get over it.

Well RR, I wish I was a cocker spaniel, call me Rover.
Exactly how many times do you have to be told that you are demonstrably wrong, because humanity is about most than Western culture, before you'll start to pay attention?
Jim, //it's probably easier to refer to my myriad answers on AB over the last few years. //

No need. Whatever your preferred world view, he's a bloke.
Well I don't have an issue and that is my decision - I feel sorry for you both that you don't have that ability.
Rockrose, your sympathy is misplaced. I never have been a fantasist - and I utterly detest lies.
leaving aside all the gender non issues for a minute. Should we be spending tax payers money on unnecessary surgery for murderous criminal lowlife scum?
I have no problem with using he feminine pronoun I believe that gender may be a continuum not a black and white thing as opposed to genetic sex. We all know birth defects occur, and if possible we correct them to ensure children have the best chance of growing up to live the best lives they can. Suppose gender dysphoria is a birth defect we don't know how to correct the brain where the fault lies but we can adapt the body to better fit the way the brain sees itself.

In this case the individual concerned should wait.
These issues have all been stated before.
The thing is, committing a crime shouldn't be a fast track free journey to surgery in order to mimic the sex you weren't born. He can sort that out separately after he leaves "her majesty's pleasure" by whatever are the usual channels.
Being born a particular gender is not a birth defect. Not being able to accept oneself, may be.
It might be a fault in brain development causing a mismatch between mind and body. I am not saying that is so...just suggesting it could be part of how it happens.
