This is what it is all about. It is good to remember the sacrifices of past generations. WWI was to be the war to end all wars - we don't seem to have been very successful. So, we need not only to remember but we need to learn from our mistakes.

I often sang this and played guitar at local folk club years ago. I love this song and the sentiments.
Like all the versions, I expect we all have our favourite versions.
