How can equal pay be agreed if the men and women are doing different jobs? Surely it's only cut and dried if they are doing the same job. Otherwise it's just a grey area.

I'm struggling to understand this.

It seems the women want the same pay as another different job, am I correct?

Surely if they want more pay they can apply to be dustmen - or whatever. Or is it that they are prevented from applying?
The jobs they’re saying aren’t equal pay are not equal jobs, is the point
Are you saying Spath that you don't think working caring for the elderly having to clean dirty bottoms, lift and clean up after them warrants the same pay as a refuse collector?
RR, it depends how you want to look at it. If we dont clear the garbage then disease will be rife and many will die, for instance.

Unfortunately jobs are not paid on moral worth. If there becomes a surplus of dustmen then wages drop, the problem with care is the huge influx, of mainly Eastern Europeans, who have kept wages sown in that sector.

But either way, if men and women are paid the same in the same vocation then equal pay and rights have been achieved. Anything else is left wing idealism that would lead to some real problems if implemented.
RR, they are not the same job or position. So no i do not think they deserve equal pay. I find that a odd, slightly loaded questions.
I'm not saying bin men should get paid more than doctors or carers.. I'm saying if it aint the exact same job with the exact same requirements then you can't call for "equal pay" because the job, itself, is not equal.
my reference to bin men was actually.. "women want equal pay and job positions at the top of the ladder, but not the bottom". Aint no woman upset because she doesn't get paid as much as her bin"men" colleagues, because they would get paid the exact same.
I would be sensible for jobs to be allocated tiers which have corresponding wages which are clearly open to both sexes. I personally find a car assistant and bin man on the surface to be comparable jobs, I think the moaning of the some of the men on this thread, 'but we have to lift heavy things' is absolutely risible (and I've personally never asked a man to lift anything I couldn't). Our bin men are not particularly active souls whereas some care assistants never stop heavy lifting and doing unpleasant work. This is nothing really to do with what sex a worker is but rather how individual jobs equate to one another.
For someone who doesn't drive though a car assistant is moot but if the bin men didn't collect rubbish then the streets would smell, be ridden with rats and the environment would suffer.

Binmen help the world go round.
Oh for goodness sake....is this the annual meeting of the hard of thinking here? Its not difficult to analyse jobs and equate them...and is it any surprise that the people, who don't seem to be able to get hold of this concept, self identify on here as male?
1. my gender is not set
2. i've never moaned about men lifting, AL bought lifting into it
3. i've never implied from the start that for the exact same job, women should be paid less.

Don't let your emotions override your ability to read my posts.
1 I never mentioned lifting
2 who said I was targetting you
3 I won't tell you not to misread my posts or anyone elses because it would be wasted words
Round we go!
Not at all Spath but domestics and refuse collectors are on the same pay scale point system.
Also just to point out - most binmen don't lift now anyway - they wheel the bins to the lorry and put them on the lifting machine.
CARE assistant Spath, CARE! I apreciate that there was one typo but what the feck is a car assistant anyway?
Yeah ours just stroll about RR, absolutely no manual work whatsoever.
spath // I've never moaned about men lifting, AL bought lifting into it //

No I did not. AOG @10.47 I was replying to him.
The point that Spath is avoiding here is the council have a pay structure and for example a refuse collector and a car assistant both are pay grade 4, but the refuse collector gets a higher pay than the care assistant because he is male.
How can that be fair or correct?
