The Canada deal sounds good, even Lord Farage likes it so what am I missing? Should we "Bite his hand off"?

as far as tusk et al are concerned they just want to be able to turn round after we get independence and claim some kudos saying it (being any "deal")was all their doing...

no need to bite anybodys hand off, we decide what deal if any is right for us not them, their days of deciding our countrys future etc are over
I think that what they are offering is actually better than the 'chequers' proposal.

In the link it says: "But Mrs May is opposed to such a deal because she argues it would require a customs border in the Irish Sea and lead to the breakup of the UK because Northern Ireland would have to be treated differently to the rest of the UK." - why would it require a customs border in the Irish Sea?
It would require a border in the Irish Sea because that is the stick the EU are poking us with.

With a proper free trade deal there would be even less need for a hard border than anything.

I have always been sceptical of any deal the EU are happy with. It would likely be inherently in their favour and many parts of the remain and leave camp are so desperate for a deal that they will accept and trumpet something that isn’t quite right for the UK.
^ yup, if the eussr are pushing a deal and are happy then theres a catch..
their sole intention with regards to a deal has been to attempt to punish us and set an example to stop the rest from wanting out as soon as the cash cow dries up...they will do anything to keep their empire building project alive
The EUSSR perhaps want a "sea border" with NI in case all the illegal immigrants that they allowed into Britain via Calais will try to get back to the EUSSR via that route after Brexit. You know fearing that they can't force us to feed, clothe , and house them, meaning the illegals will see Mrs Meerkats open invitation to be a better option for a life of indolence and insolence.
I'm paddling my dinghy backwards. Across. the Irish Sea. Fiddle I Do.
:-)
I hope personal pride does not prevent May from climbing down from Chequers and going for this. Best for Britain. Sod the DUP, SDLP, Sinn Fein and Varicose Veins.
Top level of debate as always.
I think there will be a deal: it will involve a customs union not called as such. No other option really. No one wants ‘no deal’ so they should concentrate minds. Whether the deal will be acceptable after it’s been signed tho is anyone’s guess
Dont understand why we dont just invade and take over the Republic of Ireland and join it to the UK. At a stroke that removes the problem of the border. Sinn Fein are always going on about a united Ireland, there you have it
You're on to something there, fiveleaves, if we can just sort out the leprechaun farming question I thing it's a goer.

We march at Easter!
The catch that it'll treat one part of the UK different to the rest, which is something no one should approve of. It's splitting our nation with an internal customs border, something no other country would agree to, and a step towards betraying those in NI by undeniably encouraging a united Ireland; something a nation should never do to a section of it's citizens.
It won’t do that because, as I say, there’ll be a fudge. Like it or not the economies and futures of the U.K. and Ireland are inextricably linked.
The EU’s ‘fallback position’ would never be implemented.
