Whether they are complicit or not ,in their daughter's disappearance - i don't know .

However , what reason would they have , to be involved in her disappearance ?
Jack: How do you know they were lies?

If this had been a 'chav' family in Benidorm that had left their children to go for a meal there would have been uproar.
If the local Police had then found evidence of misdemeanor, there would have been tut tutting, OMG take their other kids into care and the parents would have been arrested.

"They could not have done it because they are a middle class family and that thing just does not happen" is frankly a load of twaddle and blaming false evidence and the incompetence of foriegn Police officers just an excuse.

Those parents, by default, were 100% responsible for the death of their daughter. If they had taken the children with them to supper, as do the majority of people on holiday, none of this would have happened.
I certainly don't think they murdered their own child, that's frankly ridiculous, however I, like everyone else, have no idea what actually happened to the poor little thing. I think it's possible that she was kidnapped and then abused and murdered. I also think it's possible that she was kidnapped and is alive somewhere. Thirdly there is the possibility that she died accidentally perhaps because she had medication administered to her to make her sleep, and her parents panicked, in which case they are in hell anyway. I think the latter is more unlikely though because once they had 'got away with it' so to speak, it would be counter productive to keep the story as alive as they are keen to keep it.
I'm really not sure why people are so emphatic that they 'know' what happened, when clearly no-one, or at least not many people, do.
I still live in hope that she is alive, as apparently do her parents.
My view is that she was kidnapped, abused and then murdered. I have thought for a very long time that she is dead, sadly. I also agree that the parents should not have left the children alone, but I suspect they know this and suffer with it every single day. I feel sorry for them as well as Madeline.
kval I don't think she was murdered by her parents either. There would be no sense or motive. People by nature want to try and 'work it out'. I believe she was medicatied by her parents and things went wrong. Apparently she was a very hyperactive child and had caused problems with temper tantrums ect on previous occasions, hence perhaps why her parents felt the need to leave her in the apartment. All I can add is that as a mother of 4 children no way on this earth would I leave a three year old in a hotel room without adult supervision -ever. All very sad, a little life cut short.
I have read parts of his book.
I have to say that British publishers would possibly have asked him to be more restrained in his accusations.

There are huge leaps of logic and stretching or squashing facts to fit his preferred theory.
He doesn't deserve to earn a penny from this publication.

And I *would* have said exactly the same had this been 'chav' parents of a 'chav' child from a 'chav' estate.

AL,//Any scenario would be pure conjecture//

Of course, but when it's suggested that they killed her I have to ask how they disposed of the body. Short of taking her aboard a boat, weighting her down, sailing a long way offshore into very deep water and dropping her overboard, I can't see any other way she could remain undiscovered - but I think someone might have noticed if they'd chartered a yacht. I've always thought that perhaps the kidnapper did that - and shortly after she'd been taken. I hate to say it but I think she's dead.
I agree with that AL, anyone who leaves a child alone in a hotel room is flirting with death and disaster and it's something I will never do no matter what's going on. I also agree that if it had been a 'chav' family all hell would have broken loose and they would still be being villified without anyone sticking up for them, but that speaks more about our society than anything. I still have no real idea what happened to the poor little thing.
I think the Yacht idea might be bang on the money Naomi as well.
My heart breaks for the McCanns and all their children.

I think she was stolen to order and I think she's still alive.

Goodness me, she was given that unique eye for a reason and one day I hope someone will recognise her in a crowd.

As for giving her a fatal dose of medicine, as Doctors they are less likely than anyone else to administer a lethal dose of anything since they're medically trained ... and I don't for one minute think they sedated any of their children.
Ladybirder.
//not a *** up as you put it, but no doubt had a couple of glasses of wine during that time. Also during that time, they took it in turn to check on the children every half an hour.//

We only have their word for that and didn’t they say they could see the apartment from the bar?
Webbo they couldn't see if the children were OK from the restaurant but they could see the holiday flat. That is why they checked every half hour. If I remember correctly, the 9.30 viewing was done by one of their friends who was going to check on his own child and volunteered to check on the McCann children. Unfortunately, he went only into the living room area, stood and listened and all was quiet. So he left again thinking all was well. He did not look into the bedroom. Then when Kate checked at 10pm the poor child was gone.
In hindsight of this case none would leave kids alone but it was common for adults to dine without kids while staff listened out for sleeping kids; I did it often when kids were young.

McC were dining with 3 couples of kids alone in hotel rooms. They rota checked rooms regularly = 8 adult checks. As none used hotel service checks causing income loss, I think hotel staff were behind this abduction.
Really, tambo? Are you friends with spath?
Cjo, I dont know spath personally. Ive always thought hotel staff were behind Maddie's abduction.
Why would anyone leave their children alone in a room while they dined? Are children such an inconvenience on holiday?
Because the children had been out playing in the sunshine all day and being so young were exhausted and ready for their beds. My children certainly went to bed that early at that age.
To get back to the OP, as I said I believe they should use said funds and if they win, the winnings will go back into the pot. As a contributor to that pot, that is my view.
in hotels children were served at 6-7pm and adults after 9pm when kids were in bed. Often there would be dancing after dining.
ladybirder, in that case a parent should have stayed with the children and had some food brought up, or eaten earlier with the children. They have taken money from gullible people to fund a police case that could have been avoided by being good parents. That money should be given to charity and a line drawn under the whole horrible scenario.
Tambo, these guys were not in the hotel, they were in an adjacent bistro. You may be able to dance the night away leaving your kids alone in a hotel room but I wouldn't.
Make you mind up.

AuntLydia at 3.49pm "I think they did it and are keeping it high profile in an attempt to try and convince the public and police they couldn't have."

Aunt Lydia at 6.13pm "...I don't think she was murdered by her parents..."
