When I watch this programme I end up thinking back to my childhood.
My grandparents were quite comfortable. Had a nice house, lots of ornaments, used to have a business but sold it.
When they died my mother had to clear the house. She put all the ornaments in the bin. There were a couple of Lalique figures that I have recognised since then. She didn't like anything like that only really liking modern stuff.
They didn't leave any money at all. Mother searched the house, even looked up the chimney but never found anything.
I could have inherited a fortune!!

Think we all do it Caran, watching those shows.
What a shame Caran, I don't think people realise that some things are worth something.
If everyone had kept their grandparents and parents 'junk' their would be no Antiques Roadshow as the antiques would be so common they'd be worthless

Fair point hc4361. But Lalique must be an exception.
I inherited funeral costs and paying for house clearance

I was brought up by a single parent, (Mother) house clearance revealed a fully loaded Walther P45.
Don't ask. dont know.
I know how frustrating it is, when my mum cleared my great grandmothers stuff there were loads of things that should have been kept. Mahogany dining table and chairs that could seat 16 anyone., masses of Asian art and small furniture pieces, Islamic brass and loads of Doulton Lambethware, I have a pair of lovely art nouveau vases I asked my mum to keep for me. I wish I'd rescued the black marble garniture as well, it was really spooky and so heavy.
A good handgun that balders!
My dad's parents had a pair of Staffordshire pottery dogs and they told him the dogs watched everything he was doing and told them if he was naughty. When the parents died, dad smashed the dogs.
