Shameful self-interest (as usual)

Some of the local councillors I know (who happen to be Liberal Democrats) work for more hours per week on their duties than a full-time council employee does. If the Eastleigh councillors work anywhere near as hard as ours do, their new rate of £6739 per year (out of which they have to meet many expenses) seems like incredibly good value for money to me.
Have to agree with you there Buenchico.

I know one particular councillor in EH that works incredibly hard. I have worked with him when we were zipping around on digger and dumper trucks clearing community grounds on a Sunday. No pay, very little recognition all for the community.
So in reality , no snouts in the trough.
Councillors Do indeed work hard, sometimes at their own expense, for the good of the community they represent. They are often 'at work' evenings and weekends.
With Councillors there are some good and some bad.

Bad ones generally get weeded out as there re many Independents that people are happy to vote for if mainstream are not good enough.
'"Most councillors work hard but then so do the council's staff and if 2% is what they're getting. "I fail to see how councillors can, in all conscience, give themselves an 8% rise."'

Reasonable point.
