well at some time or other, I think politicians perhaps near elections should tell at least a LITTLE truth

that someone (er prime minister) was truthing when it looked like he was lying ( Eden )
and another looked very credible and yet was lying ( Macmillan - "Mac was an inveterate liar" according to wife of a cabinet colleague)

No one could make promises since all sides were multi party so couldn't speak for any future government nor any party's policy. It was all suggested options. But the poster was a stupid creation. I know of no one who thought it would be a feasible idea nor believed it was anyone's aim. We have other financial demands to cover, not just the NHS. It just gave remainers an excuse to pretend it was. Whoever was responsible should have been pilloried.

I've no idea who is who's hero, but I do recall Farage admitting he thought it was a mistake to use the indisputably accurate gross figure of cost to us; one can only presume because he thought thick people couldn't understand it, and that other remainers saw it as an opportunity to moan and lie about the figure being wrong, again presumably because they hoped the public wasn't smart enough to know the difference between gross and net.

I think Farage made one of his few mistakes then. Anyone bright enough to be given a vote has to know the meaning of the gross figure and how it doesn't pretend that we were being asked for less for the EU budget. But undoubtedly it gave the remain camp the opportunity to try to confuse folk.

Dear oh dear, we have come to expect arrogance from AOG, but this is extreme even by his standards. It isn't just 'thick people' who don't understand the true cost of EU membership.
