I'm sorry if this might sound uncaring Why on earth are Britain getting involved in a conflict thousands of miles away? So what if Assad uses chemical weapons, why do the UK have to get involved? It is going to put us at risk of terror attacks, and God forbid Nuclear War. It is not our problem? Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy are not getting involved

//Once his beaten army had skulked back home, the Americans called a halt to the fighting.//

You may also add, they didn't 'skulk' back, "The road to Basra" was one of the worst routs of any retreating army in military history, they were firebombed and burnt alive, a disgraceful and unnecessary attack.

True, Kandro. Disgraceful.
Talbot, //Why don't we be honest for a change and admit none of us have a fekin clue who are the good guys in Syria. //

Exactly. Before we muscle in the question we should be asking is "with Assad gone who's left?", and from what I can see it's not a happy prospect.
"Why don't we be honest for a change and admit none of us have a fekin clue who are the good guys in Syria.

The only really "good guys" are the peole having the bejasus bombed out of them by Assad, and to a lesser but still considerable extent, by anyone else with a weapon. That's the sad truth.
Naomi, I don't think that the idea is to get rid of Assad, just to deter him from using outlawed chemical weapons.
danny, Hmmm.....
danny: "TTT, where did I say that Saddam invaded Kuwait in 1991? " - where did I say you did?
Sorry,misread your post quoting Ken.
Think if conscription was introduced in the Uk, a hell of a lot of immigrant eighteen year olds would suddenly disappear! and return to their own country.

/// The only really "good guys" are the peole having the bejasus bombed out of them by Assad, ///

You are really that naive into believe that, are you?
??
The only people getting rich and gaining anything are the arms manufacturers. Bet NONE of the Mps offspring will be on the front lines.
In any case, wobbling begins;
'Donald Trump has said he never revealed when an attack on Syria would take place, in what could be a stunning reversal from Wednesday's warning to Russia to "get ready" for US missiles.

"Never said when an attack on Syria would take place. Could be very soon or not so soon at all!" he tweeted on Thursday morning. "In any event, the United States, under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of ISIS. Where is our 'Thank you America?'." '

The Telegraph Today

'Thank you America?' but at what price?
My thoughts exactly gordie. When I watched the news last night, I was thinking why the hell do we ALWAYS have to get involved !
//
good to see kromo getting his rocks off using this as another anti British rant opportunity. //

I don't think patriotism should prevent us from observing reality.

If the 'plan' is not to remove Assad, might I ask what it might be? To fly over and chuck in a few missiles? What exactly is the point? Because as far as I can see, all it amounts to is gloating rights in the future.

I don't know if that is for your earlier post about Britain being a has-been but whether you like it or not Krom, the UK is still one of the worlds most powerful nations.

Not sure why you often say we're not.
All of Britain's optimistic global power rankings rely on 'soft power' - i.e. cultural influence, and diplomacy, both of which rely strongly on our presence in culture and higher education (the latter of which is being seriously undermined by profiteering behaviour on the part of universities; primary and secondary education went years ago). Neither of that is going to be of any value in Syria. Our conventional forces have all been gutted on the alter of Trident - army numbers are well below target and navy is being mothballed:

We're not a great power and the insistence that we are one is delusional. This is not our responsibility anymore.
Let's have your rankings then, Krom.
If Donald's wobbling (see above) isn't enough, it's all over bar the shouting anyway;

'The Russian military says Syrian government troops are now in full control of the town of Douma in Syria - the site of a suspected chemical weapons attack over the weekend.

Douma, on the outskirts of Damascus, was the last rebel-held area in the eastern Ghouta region.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the situation in the town of Douma, just east of the Syrian capital, is "normalizing." .

Even if they were culpable - which I doubt, where would retrospective
punishment begin and end?
Sure, anonymous internet person, I will gladly take time out of my day to rank every power in the world by approximate strength for you.
