The carer quite rightly lost her job, but I am unsure why the Police didn't pursue a charge of assault, as its quite clear to me that it was indeed an attack on a vulnerable woman.

If the camera was set up because there were suspicions the daughter would have been partly prepared......
Remaining calm, difficult though that would be, was the best thing she could do for her mother and to get the carer out of the house undamaged.....we know what happens when you hurt someone even when the one you hurt is in the wrong....
The carer would now be claiming for all sorts of injuries.....x

a few slaps round the offending carer's face would be worth it, apparently you can do that with virtually no consequences

I have looked at the footage again, and it seems I wasn't fully aware of the situation

The abuse happened in the woman home, not a care home. And I am also amazed the daughter kept her cool under the circumstances. Not sure I would have been so restrained.

Completely agree Gness. Although I wouldnt have whacked her, I do not think that I could have remained as calm. The red mist would have come down..........

It depends, Ael......I arrived at my mother's to find a man and young girl sitting either side of her holding her hands.......they had told her they were from the church and in her confused state she took it to mean her Catholic church.
They were in fact from a weird religion or cult..... I reported them to the police who investigated.

My mother became very violent towards me when I asked them to leave so I had to stay very calm despite both "visitors" becoming threatening towards me for denying my mother her right to God...and a whole lot of other chanting and waffle.

I think the daughter's first concern was for her mother in that moment as was mine and you have to deal with the situation in the best way for them....

The carer should have been prosecuted though..x

The red mist.....yes that's how I felt, Barmaid when I saw how they were with my mother.....and the things they said to me....

But sometimes red mist makes you icy cold rather than violent...x

Yes, I get that, I really do.

It's hard looking after elderly relatives - particularly those with dementia. Really hard. Those of us who were brought up to be decent human beings protect them with everything they have.

That person is a nasty individual. The lack of provocation is quite startling. The fact that she just slaps her for no reason whatsoever (I am not saying there is ever a reason for violence, but the fact that they are sitting quietly on the sofa and she just lashes out is horrifying).

why was she sitting on the sofa anyway shouldn't she have been washing the lady etc if as she so cruelly put she smelt ?

I think Gness has made a good point here. In order for her Mum not to be distressed any further, the daughter decided not to respond in the same way....a sensible decision IMHO.

I saw that and it was heartbreaking. If I'd seen her do that to anyone, never mind a vulnerable person I'd have dragged her outside and beaten her into the middle of next week- apparently I'm more my father's daughter than I thought, because I'm usually all for due process, but seriously sometimes you do need to counter fire with fire, as she's more or less away with it scott free.

Heartbreaking to see and I have nothing but admiration for the calm measured way the ladies daughter reacted - not sure I could have kept my cool there.

To me it looks as if the old lady was uncomfortable, probably sitting in her own urine or worse, and was trying to get her hand down to touch it and point out to the carer that she needed cleaning up. Heartbreaking.
