since it's becoming increasingly accepted that gender is less about chromosomes, appearance or reproductive ability but more a matter of state of mind not necessarily requiring reassignment intervention (and the gender recognition act 2004 is likely to be amended to reflect this), are the "X-X" denizens of the Kenwood Ladies Pond Association being a tad unreasonable?

That is where the answer is Douglas.
No offence meant here, honestly guys, but Naomi... have you noticed the irony here of two gay men trying to tell two women what they actually are? :-)
naomi24

It's not a pathetic answer - it's common sense.

Trans women are not going to linger in women's facilities, copping an eyeful. They will be in and out trying to attract as little attention as possible.

Creepy blokes will hang around, and they will inevitably become sexually excited, because that's what creeps and pervs do.

My answer makes all kinds of sense.
Pixie, Didn't like to say but that occurred to me some time ago ...
mushroom25

Thanks for that - my spellchecker corrected me, and I don't have the guts to challenge it.

Women don't have an exclusive right to have an opinion here.
I have less tact. SP, are you now suggesting that perverts and weirdos make it obvious? Or that it doesn't matter if nobody notices? How about a man looking through to a children's changing room, but none of them notice him. Does that make it better?
SP, I’ll tell you a little story. I know someone who is in the process of transitioning from male to female. I’ve known him for years and was always aware of his foibles and his fondness for women’s clothes., etc. All was well with our relationship, always very friendly, until one day he decided to tell me that he believes the spirit of his dead sister inhabits his body and finished up propositioning me in no uncertain terms. He scared the wits out of me – really he did. Needless to say I beat a hasty retreat and he is no longer on my Christmas Card list. As you say there are without doubt some creeps, weirdos and pervs out there … so don’t tell me who I have to accept and who I don’t.
I know, SP- it was just the irony I noticed.
Same as white people have a right to have a stand on issues of race...it's not just black people who can discuss racism and prejudice.

Men have a right to have a viewpoint on gender identity.
" so don’t tell me who I have to accept and who I don’t."

And where have I demanded that?
It's not that "trans" people are more likely to be perverts- but the changing of the laws makes it much easier for perverts too and more dangerous for women.
pixie374

I don't see the irony.

Most gay men I know have deep and long-lasting relationships with women that straight blokes can never achieve (apart from those they are sexually attracted to).

You'd be surprised how much gay men know about women.

But not lesbians.

They're way too complicated.
sp, you've made it abundantly clear that you think I'm wrong.
pixie374

Many pages ago on this thread, I said that I didn't agree with self-certification.

I don't think someone can wake up one day and declare themselves the opposite sex without going through rigorous psychological evaluation...by trained medical staff. It just doesn't make sense.

What I believe is that trans women should be able to use gender appropriate facilities.
naomi24

Okay.

Glad the message got through.

And you think I'm wrong.

Which is cool.
SP, it was just an observation- I meant no offence, sorry. No man, gay or otherwise, will genuinely get it and the posts here just prove that further.
naomi24

But remember, just because someone thinks you're wrong, doesn't mean that they are telling you what you should and shouldn't believe. It's a common on those beliefs, rather than an instruction on how you should live and think.
For 'common', read 'comment'.
sp, //Glad the message got through.//

It did indeed.
We don't have Gender- appropriate facilities. We have sex- appropriate facilities. And I agree, they should use their own.
