From the report "But the most significant measure will be an increase in income tax, which comes after Ms Sturgeon suggested it was time for higher earners to pay a "modest" amount more." Does that mean more in the kitty for England to get a fairer share ?
A Scottish exodus to where TTT? We have free prescriptions, free travel etc etc. Only those who can afford it will be asked to pay a little more.

...to England maggie. Really transport in Scotland is buck shee?
For all over 60s TTT, bus travel is free. New born babies also get baby boxes and all primary 1- 3 children get free school meals. Nothing in England that would tempt me down there.
Not even the warmer weather ?
We aren't permanently blue here ;-)

Fair enough maggie, that's good for those that need and use it but that will not be the same people who are paying for it. Are they happier to pay more income tax than the rest of the UK? History has shown that rises/cuts in direct tax can have the opposite effect to that expected on tax receipts.
Here in England 90 percent of people, or so i read, are exempt from prescription charges, and its only now that they have changed the bus pass so you get it when at retirement age, which isn't remotely fair, as it used to be 60..
It will depend on the level of taxation. If it is sufficient then yes, i am sure some will move. Even for those that dont I would have thought there would be some resentment of it.

Of course, those on the freebies wont move, it will only be those who are paying.
can't see anyone moving to be honest unless they put it up so much that there are some who don;t like it, and move, but its unlikely.
It is not just the people leaving though is it? This will not go down well with any company considering moving to Scotland. Apart from the worry of when they start on corporation tax there is the issue for the board members, who would vote to move a company to a place where you get clobbered with high taxation?
I was lucky. I turned sixty the year before they changed the rules so I got my bus pass straight away.
Doesnt bother me, I wont use scum scoops until they take my licence off me or I feel I am a danger to others. That will be well past 67 or whatever it is.

I really really can't stand this thought process.

Higher earners already pay more. Even if there wasn't a 40% rate for higher earners, they would be paying more by dint of the fact they are earning more.

This is nothing more than a success tax and is despicable. How dare some people have the temerity to do better in life than others.

Still should Corbyn and McDonnell ever get in (and the very thought makes my blood run cold), they will be hammering the "rich" who earn over £80k....although I note Corbyn has never explained as to why he commented that he wasn't rich earning £140k, but those people earning £80k were.

"How dare some people have the temerity to do better in life than others. " - That's the Labour party mantra right there, BA!
Already bashed in general election this bunch of jokers are nailing their own coffin lids firmly shut. Bye, bye you myopic, lying, self-serving losers. How come you've been bleating about public services in Scotland for ten years and not raised more in income tax before? Love the way they say 70 per cent of Scottish taxpayers will not have to pay more tax under these proposals. That means that 30 per cent will have to pay more. There are a lot more people in London than there are in Scotland. Why should we worry about them so much? They can go independent - oh, I remember, the Scottish people voted against independence. Good luck Nicola. Keep taking the money for so long as it lasts.
Old Geezer at 12.43 - Which England are you referring to ? In my entire life of 72 years I have not felt as cold anywhere as I felt where I was in England (during winter) when I was in my early twenties and it hasn't got an awful lot better - indoors in particular tend to be subject to outdoor conditions which is the international exception. I know that there is an England being spoken of which compared to Scotland (and a number of other north European countries) is a veritable tropical paradise. I have been around many parts of England but not found this tropical part.

so +1p all round then what happened to 70% wont be affected? are 70% of those earning in Scotland on less than 24k? really?
"Mr Mackay (The country's finance secretary) said the move will mean no one earning less than £33,000 in Scotland will pay more tax"

He also went onto say " that more than two thirds of income taxpayers will pay less tax than they currently do under his proposals, which will need to be approved by MSPs before coming into force from April 2018"

the problem is that you only have to lose a few of the 41% mob to negate any gain. I would not be surprised if total tax receipts fall. You see it tax an awful lot of people paying the extra 1% to make up for the total tax lost by 1 person moving south of the border. In the borders region that may not mean moving very far. Do we know if it's based on residence of the person or the employer?
