It can't be about 'peace' because as far as I can see no one is threatening us, but of course, they continually try to vilify Russia as if it were some sort of fearsome enemy, because they need a justification for the creation of a European Army, - can you imagine what that would be like?- what a joke.

It's primarily to give people like mikey and gromit a warm comfy feeling.
i honestly don't know, perhaps not the answer you were looking for?
European army? Who, when, why, where, what?
The idea that there has been peace in Europe for 70 years solely because of the EU is frankly risible.
surely that would never happen, A European army seems way off.

That is today, but there are any amount of similar accounts.
Try to imagine a mish-mash of disparate armies, navies and air forces without a common language and a Brussels-based Commander in Chief in the form of a drunken Jean Claude Junker.
It's a more tasteful way for Germany to be in power over all Europe after their world war methods failed.
It's about making multiple nations merely areas within a larger new nation, presided over by an unelected elite. It's about power.
OG has hit the nail on the head.
With a "European" army Germany could covertly rearm just as in days of yore. Then dominate the arms industry and direction it takes, like they do now with the common currency.
Well, that’s what you get for voting ‘leave’.

‘with senior officials in Brussels urging EU member states to capitalise on the “political space” left by Britain’s decision to vote to leave’

who gets to build the white flag factory?
Well their army will NEVER be as good as ours :-)
I believe the Irish are quite good at building.
The plans for a EU army were already in place before we even thought of holding a referendum on Brexit. Usual Brussels spin and fake reasoning to shift the focus. Some fall for it every time too.
That’s true Togo but UK governments were always a thorn in the side of those making plans for an EU army
‘but the European Commission, France, Germany and Italy see Brexit as a new chance to press ahead with deeper EU military integration’

“European army? Who, when, why, where, what?”

“…surely that would never happen, A European army seems way off.”

You two need to keep up! Here’s one of many articles that set out the EU’s vision for a European Army, which they put forward last summer:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/brussels-reveals-vision-for-european-army-to-supersede-nato-zw3j2qrdk

When the EU has a “vision” it usually turns into reality (often by stealth). No doubt the European Army will turn out to be the third achievement of which the euromaniacs are most proud (and look how much good the other two have done for 500m people).

“Well, that’s what you get for voting ‘leave’.”

I see. So it’s our fault that the mania for a Federal State with all its trappings goes unchecked? Fortunately we won’t be getting anything. Our protection will continue to come via NATO which, no doubt, the rest of Europe will refuse to fund when it sets up its own army. Well good luck to them.
‘So it’s our fault that the mania for a Federal State with all its trappings goes unchecked?’

It patently hasn’t helped.
And no need for the derogatory ‘keep up’ comment. Khandro posted without a link. I merely wondered what developments had instigated his post.

Z. // Khandro posted without a link.// With so much talk of a European Army for so long, I didn't think one was required. In fact, it was one of the reasons many people including myself voted to leave the EU.
The EU has now reached a point where its sole purpose is to self-survingly survive as a power base controlling all its members, it has no real use at all, everything it does can be done just as well by different methods and mutual agreements between sovereign states.
The EU, in its present form isn't the future, I give it 10 years max.
