People have been scamming people forever, not only those you deem as 'thick' have fallen foul.

The trouble is with any sort of successful scam is it relies on either greed or desperation. Greed is one thing. Desperation is quite another and can make people believe in things that they want to believe in.

Nigerian 419 scam - internet scam originating in Nigeria but now prevalent across the world. Originally named after the Nigerian penal code - effectively internet users are scammed into sending money to scammers for fees for an inheritance, fees for travel/hotel (in the case of romance scammers) etc.

A lot of those people open to scamming are in dire straits and enter in the hope of winning enough to get straight.

fair enough JTT but the scamee must take a modicum of responsibility for spotting an obvious con. Let's see some stranger on a world wide site is running a raffle, I'll bung £50 straight in what could go wrong? Jesus H on a bicycle it's easier to operate than a crowdfund!

Perhaps you ought to turn your attentions away from AB and take up patrolling the pages of other social media warning people against partaking in fraudulent raffles and other schemes?
