is social media giving a platform for every inadequate nasty little s41t bag in the world? Cav get's injured in the tour doing what he's best at and the trolls of the world pick on him and his family. What is happening to humankind?

I've joined since then, but I don't, somehow, classify AB as 'Social Media'. To me the phrase refers to 'facebook' (I have a small account, only 6 or 7 people on it) or 'twitter' which I don't do. This feels different.

I've never claimed to be the definitive voice on everything, and I wasn’t the definitive voice on that. You were given links to definitions of ‘Social Media’ which confirmed pretty much what Talbot said above.

I don’t enter into discussions that render me out of my depth, which is why you’ll only generally spot me in ‘Technology’ for example, if I need an answer to a question. I’m happy to be educated in areas of which I’m ignorant and I never mind saying ‘I don’t know’ when I don’t. Try it.

Now I’d be obliged if you’d call a halt to your inaccurate personal analysis of my perceived failings. This isn’t about me.

I don't think we are on 'social media' here. I'm sure that if I mentioned AnswerBank to everyone I know IRL they wouldn't know what I was talking about. We're a nice bunch of people who discuss things in a civilised manner :) We don't do what Cav has had done to him. I can only reiterate the OP. WTW??

If the jury is out, it shouldn't take too long to deliberate whether or not AB is a website used for social interaction.

Back to the OP, social media is indeed giving these trolls a platform, and the best thing to do is ignore them. I imagine they are people who are used to being ignored anyway.

Last word from me - to avoid derailment - I have been willingly confirming my general ignorance of the finer points of Islam, while putting forward a viewpoint, for years, only to be sneered at on a regular basis by the religious knowledge police, so in short, I have 'tried it' - thank you.
