If that statement does not fill you with dread that I would very much like to hear why.

I have noticed, but could be wrong here, that Labour strongholds or areas with a large Labour following seem to have a higher proportion of either low income or unemployed people.
My parents are 73 and 78 and they would not vote Labour if they were the last party standing. Even though the Tories have announced some changes to pensions and care fees etc they will still vote Tory.
Having been braught up to believe and accept that you pay your way, you save for the things you want and live within your means they understand the benefits of earn, save and look to the future before you fritter it away.

As Mikey offered up some advice, I thought I would too...
If people are happy that the top three most important jobs in Government will be filled by a 70s throwback lying terrorist sympathiser (he finally admitted yesterday he had met with the IRA having previously said he had not) Trot, another IRA sympathiser who lists as one of his aims to destroy capitalism and in the GLC days even Red Ken considered him to be too left wing, and in Abbott an absurd woman who has been promoted way way beyond her very very meagre abilities. If people are interested in punishing those people who have had the temerity to do reasonably well in life (I can't decide whether it's more apt to call it a Success Tax or an Envy Tax) and a plethora of promises that they have no hope of paying for without bankrupting the country, the Labour is the way to vote.
Labour, in its current form, with the morons currently at the helm, would be an unmitigated disaster for the country - they intend to do what Labour of the past have done since its creation - Tax and Spend and then leave it for the Tories to sort out.
I'm not saying the Tories are a panacea (I'm a natural Tory, and by that I mean I believe in low taxation, small government and little regulation - and therefore feel May is a bit too left wing for me), but at the moment they are the only viable alternative.
I'm astonished that anybody could even consider voting for Labour in their current form. It's akin to saying, 'yes, I'd like the country to be well and truly ballsed-up'.

I know a little about Ms Abbott’s constituency as I lived there for 24 years.
The current constituency (Hackney North and Stoke Newington) was created in 1950 and, as Mikey says, has been a Labour seat since its creation (although one of the constituent parts – Stoke Newington – was a Tory seat until its abolition). Since 1950 it has had just three MPs: David Weitzman, QC (1950-1979); Ernie Roberts (1979-1987) and Diane Abbott (1987 to date). I understand why it is currently a Labour stronghold. A high proportion of the electorate is of immigrant origin, many Afro-Caribbean; it also has a high number of people in Labour-leaning professions such as teachers and lecturers. Ms Abbott is perfectly safe there, as would be the notorious tub of lard (which once famously replaced Roy Hattersley after he had cancelled at short notice – for the third time – on HIGNFY) provided, of course, it sported a red rosette.
Ms Abbott must be one of the most inept and inarticulate politicians ever to have shadowed the four great offices of State. Looking at her credentials she has never undertaken any “useful” work (though that could be said of a vast number of politicians so it is unfair to single her out); her views on race are somewhat bizarre and she hypocritically sent her son to one of the best selective schools in London despite being vehemently opposed to selection (though having enjoyed a grammar school education herself).
All in all, if Labour forms the next government and she is appointed Home Secretary I think we’re all going to need a good sense of humour. Either that or help the net migration figures by upping sticks and moving elsewhere because if that scenario transpires then the UK will just be a joke.

"Mrs May has said that should the question of fox hunting arise she will allow a free vote. Nothing more than that. "
This isn't quite true. The Tory manifesto says that such a vote *will* take place, in government time and on a government bill. It's not just a hypothetical question should someone else get around to it.

Thanks Jim for pointing that out....if Mrs May gets back in with a increased majority, then its inevitable that fox hunting will return.
She and an awful lot of other Tories never liked the abolition in the first place....it only went through when it did, because there were so few Tory MPs ....incidentally much less numbers than Labour is predicted to get in a few days.
Its quite simple to me...vote Tory, get blood sports, because hare coursing will also be back.

agchristie....in the scale of things like terrorism, not much, I will admit. But some people on here, in this thread and others, have expressed a confusion about who to vote for on June 8th.
I am just pointing out one reason for not voting Tory. There are there others, of course !
Jambutty seems to agree.

I have just found this, on the Wiki page for Hare Coursing ::::
"Thou shouldst rather be moved with pity to see a silly innocent hare murdered of a dog, the weak of the stronger, the fearful of the fierce, the innocent of the cruel and unmerciful. Therefore, all this exercise of hunting is a thing unworthy to be used of free men"
Thomas More..."Utopia"...1516
