for orangutans.
apparently there are over half a million vegans in UK, and many complained about the new 5 pound note over its tallow content, so the Bank of England is going to
make the 20 pound notes with Palm oil, which is a basic oil in the lands of the
orangutan, Sumatra and Borneo. So the more its harvested, more habit goes the more orangutans will die off. What are we doing to our planet.

Palm oil can be found in everyday products such as fondant icing, Nutella and many marinades.

I've just read that vegetarians account for 3.25% of vegans make up 1% and growing.
Mikey, wouldn't lard-based fivers cause the left wing to be offended on behalf of all the Muslims in our country?
I've never met a happy vegetarian/vegan that is happy. I know about and love animals from A-B ... but johnny do-gooders don't allow themselves a decent pork chop when presented to them, but stick to salad and not my chips which are cooked in animal fat.
I think vegan restaurants serve dust!!
I'm pretty certain that people who are vegans because they care about animal welfare will be up in arms about this palm oil plan and hopefully try and get it stopped ! I can but hope.
A large percentage of people in India are vegan. They seem to get along OK and some of the food is wonderful. It is not for me but if I had to be vegan, Indian food would be the way to go. Western vegan food is disgusting though (IMO)
Palm oil is used in huge quantities in food already, the tiny extra % for currency notes will not make the slightest difference.
If you want to make a difference to the survival of the Orangutan then stop buying and eating foods that contain Palm oil.
Or stop eating so you, Mr or Ms Vegan, can munch fivers. What are you going to make of the new pound coin? Crunchy and mineral satisfying, I hope.
The rise in veganism has been driven by bloggers/vloggers or call them what you will with their 'clean eating' ethos that has been largely discredited. The fad will die out soon as all fads do.
went to glastonbury festival one year, nad met a few vegans had a few drinks etc, went for a bit of food, they had there's me mine etc different outlets etc, all i could hear all bloody night was farts, some of the ladies would fain ill be back in a mo, all in a group blowing off
i had a bacon sarnie...nice people just the same though.
Here is the Panorama list of foods that contain palm oil

Palm oil is in over 50% of ALL packaged food sold in UK Supermarkets!
Using a miniscule amount in producing £20 notes is not going to change anything.
Palm oil is so widely used because it is very cheap!
Clean eating has been distorted and exaggerated. All it should mean is the eating of fresh, unprocessed food.
Exactly. As my parents and everyone else did when I was growing up. What a load of ***. Still, if people want to make millionaires of clean eating bloggers then more fool them.
musical fruit, or a fruit
I believe the amount of tallow or palm oil involved is so small as to be virtually insignificant.

However I am reminded of something I heard recently.

How do you know if someone is vegan?

Oh, don't worry, they'll tell you.
The oil crops should be produced in other lands, like Russia, that covers all temprates & soils. But the orient would lose income & resent the orangutans. Or the orangs could be moved to Russian land mass.

Substitute Catholic for vegan and the answer would be the same.

hopkirk it might be small but amounts to a lot when added up.
there must be other ways to get our cash. what other goods have palm oil in them, must be loads. the point being that animals are dying off because of what we do, surely we can't let that happen?
