Naomi, who says you can't do both?
If we feed people there would be a lesser need for either of those organisations.
SharonA, a noble sentiment but do you actually do that? Do you physically give money to people who need it? I don't just mean family members and friends, I mean real people in need.
I barely have enough money to support myself but I can recognise real poverty and desperation, which is why so many answers here make me sad.
Cancel your broadband QPQ ... Two birds with one stone.

You won't have to read these answers and you will have more money to give to charity.
Quiz I have given to homeless and people begging.
Talbot,he said he was rich 6 Posts ago.!!
You cancel yours Talbot if you don't agree with me.
I am not complaining about my expenses, just pointing out that you can still help even when you have little to spare. In fact, I generally find those with the least give the most. Maybe that's why we're not rich, but maybe that's also why we're decent human beings. Just a thought.
Nice SharonA :)
Everhelpful, I am not rich, I am from a rich nation.
I always have electricity, running clean water and a roof over my head. That's wealth.
If you don't get that I can't help you.
I am sorry,but no.
I have watched for 50 years these famines(I am soon to be 70),and seen enormous amounts of money poured into them. Why is it that nearly all the famines are in Africa, and not other countries/continents?
In my opinion (and that of some TV documentary makers) much of the food is channeled via the Famine Countries Governments, and never gets anywhere near the people who need it.
So I don't feel guilty saying no, and I take no notice of TV personalities etc who try to emotionally blackmail me.
Why can't the UN set up a fund to take money from every member country for disasters such as this, why ?because the UN is a toothless, clawless organisation.
I learned all about this at school about 65 years ago - it was in the geography text books about the cyclic droughts and the inability to fight nature on this scale, then with potentially millions of deaths twice a decade. Huge infrastructure is required to even approach fixing problems like this - a job for the Nation States themselves, not Oxfam or even Bob Geldof
The only charity of 180,000 that are now registered in the UK that I would give money to is the Salvation Army, which unique among charities does not have any highly paid "jobs for the boys", (with the CEO on 15k) and invests it's aid around the world very carefully.
Here you go, anne.

Don't look at future predictions, you'll have nightmares.
## The Essential Northerner is the last person who would convince me to do anything! ##

What's wrong with Northerners, Baldric?
No, If I could not support my family I would not have have gone I for another child knowing that I could not feed him / her, its not money they want out there it birth control, no matter how much money you send out there they will still ask for more, I see it's the norm now the ads come on just before you have your tea, Heartless? far from it, there's a lot in the UK Need our help, & that's where I live.
No chance.

I already donate (not through choice) through my tax.
Quizproquo at 23:47 Wed, no one says you can’t do both. It’s your money to do with as you wish but if it’s going directly to corrupt or ineffective governments there’s little likelihood that it will end up where you intend it to end up.

Maggiebee 23:30 Wed, as a Christian your conscience wouldn't allow you to ignore the plight of fellow human beings. Bearing in mind that all of the major aid charities that actually do hands-on work are secular I find it quite sad that it is, apparently, only Christianity that compels you to behave with humanity.
There could have been billions available to help this actual crisis. Instead those billions were spent on fit healthy young economic migrants, so they could without purpose or direction hang about the streets of Europe.

not a penny here!

trt @ 01:42, very little generally but Matt Baker is like a rash, all over the BBC at the moment
I had an experience in Sri Lanka a year after the Tsunami, wondering where all the aid sent and ended up in the pockets of the Government. As for South Sudan, look at this http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/03/aid-groups-criticise-south-sudan-10000-visa-fees-170311195137046.html

Charging extortionate fees for visas for Aid Workers

The answer is No to whether I would donate.

Talbot - even if there wasn't a problem with migrants and the expenditure that goes with that ; I doubt that you would want money given to appeals like this anyway .

The way I see it - this is a personal choice - if you want to give , then give - that does not make your opinion wrong , as is being intimated by some on here .

If you don't want to give then don't - simple really
