Labour have already said it won't block brexit, the Tories will fall into line so will this now stop all this sillyness and get on with implementing the democratic will of the majority?

//Sources say they believe the legislation is so tightly drawn it will be difficult for critical MPs to amend.//

difficult. but not impossible. the remainers will already be sharpening their red pencils.....
TTT, That has a snowball in hell's chance of happening.
Sorry, I was referring to this line:-
//so will this now stop all this sillyness//
If all the leave voters are so adamant that it will happen (as expressed on other posts) why do you keep posting links which would suggest otherwise?

If you're so confident, why not just ignore little blips like this? Surely losing the appeal in the supreme court isn't even on your radars?

// why do you keep posting links which would suggest otherwise//
What part of the OP's link suggests that?
I'm pretty sure the wealthy remoaners will find some greaseball lawyer to hold it up somehow.

Remember once the trough has gone they are finished so they will fight like a cornered animal.
zacs, to ignore is to allow.

If no one calls them out they will achieve what they want by quiet assent.

(It sounds right in my head but not sure if it conveys what I am thinking in pint lol)
Dream on TGT.
Danny 'What part of the OP's link suggests that?' I'm not talking about the link. I'm referring to Tora's wording which suggests he's more worried than he's letting on.

Cassa 'If no one calls them out they will achieve what they want by quiet assent.' I think your giving Answerbank much more credit than it's due.

OK
"Surely losing the appeal in the supreme court isn't even on your radars?"

It's certainly on mine (see my posts suggesting the decision will not be overturned by the Supreme Court). It must also be on the government's radar as they plan to introduce this Bill soon after the Supreme Court ruling (meaning they cannot be too confident of success there, unless they are just doing a "belt and braces" job).
I doubt Theresa May (or any pro-remain MPs) will see your thread TTT but if she did I am sure she would say agree and say that is what she is aiming to do. Don't you have faith in the government? Okay they messed up by not following the proper process but they will see it through somehow i'm sure. it sounds as if you don't think the Supreme court will allow her to bypass the Commons vote.
// The hope would be... //
// the government hopes peers... //
// They believe peers would... //

There's a lot of hoping and believing going on there. Not exactly th most confident of language coming from the Government.
Thanks for the honesty NJ. Very refreshing.
I think NJ's been saying the same thing since the ruling -- and I'm grateful for it, because my legal opinion isn't worth a dime really, so if it happens to intersect with someone like NJ I feel chuffed to bits.

An "amendment-proof" bill, though? That's just showing the same contempt for Parliament, but in a different form, surely? I suppose it's possible to publish a Bill that could compete with the record for shortest Act of Parliament, something like:

"Be it enacted ... that Parliament intends to give notice to leave the European Union under Article 50 of the Treaties of the European Union."

That ought to do it, right?
Don't bet the ranch on it.
Perhaps a second part, saying "And anyone who votes against this is a traitor who will be hanged and/ or shot at dawn". Maybe that's a bit much, but seems like it's the right spirit these days...
I think the House of Lords may be more of a stumbling block than the House of Commons.
I am wondering which person at the forefront of the leave campaign should have thought of all these things and been open about the potential problems. Okay Cameron should too - he assumed Remain would win and knew he could disappear off if Leave won
I wouldn't bet on it either.
ff 'I am wondering which person at the forefront of the leave campaign should have thought of all these things and been open about the potential problems.'

I think it was incumbent upon each voter top do the research. 'Caveat suffragium' if you like.
