If so...isn't it a tad...misdirected?

In case anyone is confused, a 'Sand N****r' is an American colloquialism for someone of Middle Eastern appearance.

Nice that they've been able to extend the use of the 'N' word, isn't it!

That picture of Mr Khan is sickening and to me it seems worse that his attacker was but 14 years old, despicable.

AOG - //Couldn't be that his attackers were black? :0) //

If that comment, and the 'smile' are an attempt at humour, I think both are misplaced.
You think so too Andy?
What's with the smiley face, AOG?
Mamyalynne - //You think so too Andy? //

Absolutely.

AOG has a long and sustained history on the AB of raising matters racial and religious - and has spent some considerable time bemoaning the fact that he is on occasions called out for seeming a little, shall we say, narrow in his perceived outlook.

It is wrong therefore to pick the subject of an innocent man being beaten within an inch of his life, to attempt to use levity and humour in regard to the ethnicity of the attacker - which is of course utterly irrelevant.

You can't play light and funny with racial violence and then moan if people criticise your views.
Agreed, made me shudder a bit really to see that.
Imagine his outrage if the victim was white and the attacker black/Muslim!
//A report released by the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the UC Berkeley Center for Race and Gender on the rise of Islamophobia in the US found that attacks on mosques nearly quadrupled from 20 to 78 between 2014 and 2015.//

Seems a world wide phenomena. These sudden rises in attacks on Muslims.
Brexit can't carry the blame alone apparently.
The whole point of sp's thread was to put a racial twist on matters why else the reference to the 'N' word.

Completely no need for it.
AOG - //The whole point of sp's thread was to put a racial twist on matters why else the reference to the 'N' word. //

You'll have to wait for sp to come back and confirm that - only he knows if there is any subtext to his post.

But that still does not excuse misplaced sarcasm and levity about a the subject of racial violence - which you seem to be keen to side-step.

Completely no need for it.
Let's think about the characteristics of people who commit violent acts. Can we agree that intolerance, hatred, religious fanaticism and mental illness (separately or in combination) could be factors? And above all, perhaps, lack of self-control. I suggest that if these characteristics were distributed within the Muslim and non-Muslim populations of the USA in the same proportion then the number of torched mosques would be in the hundreds, and the number of murdered Muslims would be in the tens of thousands.

AOG

Not sure if you actually read my link, but if you did, you would have seen the picture to the left of the story. I was merely assisting anyone who had not come across that phrase before.

What a seriously strange way of looking at the world!

Let's extrapolate a little further - if everyone who drank milk as a baby grew up to be an adult then ... the population would be adults!

I can find endless more meaningless statements of this type which echo what you have put - but what would be the point?

Why don't you go the whole way and call me what you have always cowardly insinuate?

If you haven't noticed the majority of threads on the news section of AnswerBank are about race and religion, simply because the majority of media reports are about the same two subjects.

Some of us know however that some usual suspects don't care to see it face them day in day out, unless of course it is about white's inhumanity to blacks, Christian paedophilia, Christianity, anti-British Etc, Etc.

Say what you like about these, even criticise the Queen, but dare to bring race or a certain religion into a discussion and then it's a complete no, no.

Free speech??????????

Yes, only if one toes the PC line.

Nonsense, AOG, it was you treating it as a joke. Shame on you!

Andy, I do seriously hope that when the real world touches you it is not too painful, you appear to be well out of touch.

First of all, I am not a coward, and second of all, and you should know this well from the length of our exxhanges, I do not do 'insinuation'!

//If you haven't noticed the majority of threads on the news section of AnswerBank are about race and religion, simply because the majority of media reports are about the same two subjects. //

I have noticed that, and history of the AB dictates that the majority of threads concerning race are originated by you - so you really can't be annoyed at me for pointing out a provable fact.

Your perception - to which of course you are entitled.

I have yet to see you in sight of the PC line - much less toeing it!

But thanks to the reality of free speech, your ability to comment as you do remains uncensored and here for all who wish to, to see, and indeed react to.
"Let's extrapolate a little further - if everyone who drank milk as a baby grew up to be an adult then ... the population would be adults!"

Pardon, Andy?
Baldric - //Andy, I do seriously hope that when the real world touches you it is not too painful, you appear to be well out of touch. //

Appearances can be deceptive.
