Is an alleged gang rape, so insignificant these days?

This young woman was allegedly gang raped by seven men on the 6 March.

11 arrests have been made in connection with the investigation, all those arrested (except for one who was released without charge), have been released on bail until May 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 while inquiries continue.

And no, the police have confirmed that they are not Muslims.

sounds as though Mamyalynne has put her finger on it.

Anotehr possibility, for you at least, is that you were on holiday when it happened. I sometimes miss things while I'm away, particularly if I don't have internet access all the time. I heard about Elvis's death when I was abroad but didn't hear about Marc Bolan's till months later.
"The legal process is ongoing which is why we are starting to hear of the case. They have attended Court and that is public. "

Who has attended court?

// Who has attended court? //

They have been bailed, which happens in Court.

But surely, if the Police want to encourage any information that may help them in their enquiries, one would have thought they would have sought this back in early March, instead of only releasing details 2 days ago.

/// “A full investigation is underway and work to gather evidence continues, but if anyone has any information that they have not brought to our attention we would encourage them to do so. ///
I'm useless at law, but this is what the report says...

//A spokesman for Kent Police said: "11 arrests have been made in connection with the investigation.

"All those arrested are men, aged between 16 – 22 years-old from Kent, and have been released on bail with conditions while inquiries continue.

"One suspect has already been released without charge. Inquiries are very much ongoing to establish the circumstances and no charges have been made.

"This is being treated as an isolated incident, and there are no other incidents that are being linked to this offence.//

Do we know when the 11 were apprehended?

Often a huge publicity campaign can cause flight, sometimes a quieter approach is best.

I will not and cannot attempt to tell those who know their job how to do it.

You may carry on.
Thanks Mamyalynne. They have been bailed by the police, not the courts.
aog, I withdraw my suggestion that you missed it while away; it seems the news wasn't released at all, which I hadn't twigged.

So my answer is: I don't know.
Apparently she knew her attackers so maybe it's just a case of the police not needing to go public.
// In England and Wales, it is generally considered inappropriate to comment publicly on cases sub judice, which can be an offence in itself, leading to contempt of court proceedings. This is particularly true in criminal cases, where publicly discussing cases sub judice may constitute interference with due process. //

I do not know if this case is sub judice, but if it is, it may explain why it has not been reported on since the arrests.

And you are not concerned that ten potential rapist being allow to wander free on bail, may 'fly'?

/// You may carry on ///

Oh thank you for that permission, I will now 'KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON REGARDLESS'.
Question Author
Thank you jno.
You are now asking if bail is the correct situation for these people - only those in charge of the case can answer you that one.

Maybe when they return from bail on May 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, we will be provided with a little more information?
I find it very rude when you provide information and answers and then are totally ignored!!!
If there is a conspiracy of silence, why?

- Who gains from the conspiracy?
- What are they trying to suppress?
- What is the motive for keeping this secret?
- Who is behind the conspiracy -the police? Home Office? The Courts?
- The men have been arrested and bailed, so how is justice not being done?

One cannot answer each and every person, especially when some are a little touchy as you seem to come across.

But I don't wish to upset you too much, so please tell me the ones you wish me to answer, but only those that contain correct information.

Your first answer is not amongst those because it doesn't fit my headline "Why have we only 'RECENTLY' heard about this"?

Neither does the second one, nor the third, and I think I have just answered your fourth.

There are many reasons the police keep quiet over certain things.

In this case apparently, due to past cases a member of a Far-Right Party has automatically, but apparently wrongly suspected that the suspects are Muslims, and as it has been earlier suggested on here perhaps the reason that they may be a little cagey, is that they may be other immigrants.

Who can tell until the truth is finally revealed?
So you think there is a conspiracy but cannot give any reason for one.
You seem to be suggesting that they are foreigners and that is the reason for the lack of publicity. But why would this crime be hushed up when the hundreds of other crimes by foreigners were not kept out of the public domain.
