Andy, I did originally suspect a negative inference in Sqad (and Jordy's) post but was happy with Sqad's reply at 11.51.
I know what squad is trying to get at. They reports kept referring to her as a 'child' which technically she is but that word gives the impression of an innocent little girl in pig tails. Also at the end of the trial, the detective read out a statement from the victim saying she had been traumatized and her life would never be the same again. Maybe, but I cant help thinking the possibility of compensation may have reared it's ugly head and those comments wont have done any harm at all. Most 15 year olds these days are hardly innocent. I'm not condoning what he did, he knew she was only 15 and it was wrong but I cant help but wonder if she's laying it on a bit thick that's all.

As long as there is a culture of thinking that children act and think like adults because they look like adults, this kind of situation will keep happening.

As a father of three daughters and a granddaughter, who have all been fifteen, and didn't look it - I shudder to read comments like that.

Personally, I think Johnson is a prize scumbag !

Dave - ' pigtails, compensation', view on 15yo's

In your mind perhaps but it is far more profound than that.

Dave > but I cant help but wonder if she's laying it on a bit thick that's all.

The jury accepted her version of events on the most serious charge, by your comment above do you suspect she may have over-egged some of her evidence?

You seem to doubt her character?

DB - why did you put the word assaulted between apostrophes?

Do you think it was in any way a misleading impression that the victim attended her two police intetviews in school uniform?
divebuddy - //They morph from 15 year old Lolita sex-bomb (a bit like the one in Sqad's link) to somebody in school uniform all sweet and innocent like. //

That's assuming she looked like a 'Lolita sex bomb' in the first place of course.

Not all fifteen year olds are bursting out of tight blouses with skirts up pas their bottoms you know - this is the real world not a Benny Hill sketch!

DB - Thank you.

I have only said he's a scumbag once, not 50 times, but I think I'll say it again for good measure, he's a prize scumbag, thank you !
Oh! dear...just got back.

What does she look like I agree has nothing to do with THIS case and perhaps i should not have brought it up.
But I sat in my chair, put myself in Adam Johnson@s position and had a long hard think.......is there a human aspect to this case?

50 years ago the procedure was that you met a girl, asked her out, "tried it on" and next morning the lads would say...."how far did you get?"
There would then be a discussion about future moves and endevours and whatever age of the girl, this was fairly routine and was legal ( I think) and was called.....COURTING.

Going back say 30 years ago, same routine, same comparisons, same post courting discussions, but it was now called..."CHATTING UP"

In the last decade or so it is now called "GROOMING" and is illegal BUT has been brought to light by fame and personalities.
Don't ordinary people "Court" or "Chatup " anymore even with girls under 16 years of age.

We did....what has changed. The object of all three definitions was sexual intercourse.........some taking longer than others.

So, I asked myself if in AJ's position with an attractive under aged girl, would i have acted in the same manner and i couldn't positively say that I wouldn't.

That is the human element that i was talking about.

I've spoken to a few people about this case and it amazes me that they somehow treat his status as a footballer differently to someone who is a nobody. Almost as if the scale of what happened is lessened because of who he is! Why, he played for England - it must be an injustice!
You set the cat amongst the pigeons Sqad!
Sqad - //In the last decade or so it is now called "GROOMING" and is illegal BUT has been brought to light by fame and personalities. //

'Grooming' is a specific legal term - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_grooming

It is a universe away from 'chatting up' or 'courting'!

A-H.....yes thank you, i do understand, but i was trying to keep the legal aspect apart to concentrate on the "human" aspect.

"Child" is now a defined legal term and i do understand that, but i wonder if, in the world of "human emotions" the legality is forgotten?
divebuddy - //Johnson should have kept her warm, so to speak, until November, when I believe she would be 16, and fair game (legally if not morally). //

Do you have / have you had teenage children?

Something suggests not ...
