So another over-paid and over-there (Barbados apparently ) falls on his sword.

This one was a former aid to Cameron. Good riddance as far as I am concerned.

My B.I.L. and family are moving out the Premier Inn (since Boxing Day) to rented accomodation in Prestwich for next 6 months whilst house in Bury is gutted and re floored, plastered etc. Not sure he is too concerned about scoring trite political points about the flood. He should of been returning from South Africa today to start back to work tomorrow. His...

I seem to remember that, in 2011, when rioting was breaking out around London and elsewhere, Cameron, May and Johnson (PM, Home Sec and Mayor) were all on holiday abroad, too. None of them rushed back.
Presumably, on the basis that "what's good for the master is good for the man", Dilley took a lesson from them.
As already said above, it was the deceptive 'truth' that he was "working from home" that rightly brought him down. I don't believe that was just a claim offered by an aide without his knowledge.
"This one was a former aid to Cameron. Good riddance as far as I am concerned"

former aid... hahaha not even a present aid...

See how pleased some of the jealous petty little lefties are on here are...an unknown civil servant goes back to being an unknown civil servant...

doesnt take much to keep them happy...drinks on mikey ...bitter all round...
I daresay he's got enough put by for a rainy day......

I'll get me coat.
The job offers will come flooding in...i'll get me raincoat !
Funnily enough, I'm with mikey on this one. There's a deeper malaise with this quango.
His resignation statement is a litany of denial. Some 'publicist' got a £120,000 pay off, last week, for taking the blame for his deception. (re working at home)
A chap who seemed to be in line for CEO and had years of experience in flood prevention was passed over for a career diplomat who's qualification for the job was probably the school he went to. Whether it was down to politics or 'jobs for the boys' it was a very strange appointment. The chap who was passed over is now sitting at home on 6 months, £60,000 gardening leave.
Did they have to spend £75,000 on a hundred chairs? I've never worked in an office but I know some people on here do. Is there any justification for spending £800 each for office chairs?

This twit reminds me of a incident a few years ago, in the Lakes, when 4 of us arrived at a country Pub, just 1-2 mins after they had stopped serving lunch, at 14:00.

When we enquired, very politely, if we could perhaps have some sandwiches, the barmaid said, and I quote her verbatim ::

" The chef can't be asked " !

It seems (sir) Dilley can't be asked to do a part-time job, for which he is paid a very handsome £100,000 a year to do.

So Bog Off then !
Sure she said the chef can't be "asked" ??? :-)

Naomi,
Election result still stinging,
so any opportunity!
I just find the continuous bile incredible, Baldric. It's unnatural. Obsessive.

///It's unnatural. Obsessive///

Yep, that's our Mikey!
well in all fairness, mikey's not the only one spounting "continuous bile" is he? it seems to me everyone could just calm themselves today, and feel much better in htemselves
^What?
"well in all fairness, mikey's not the only one spounting "continuous bile" is he? it seems to me everyone could just calm themselves today, and feel much better in htemselves"
Oh well, happy in your own little world I suppose.
If my B.I.L. and many others had been under 6' of snow whilst Sir Philip Dilley had chosen to go to a perfectly natural Christmas break with his Barbadian wife and visit her family then no one would be any wiser or cared.
Has he got to stay in the UK 24/7 or perhaps we should arrange his Christmas with family in June.
"Can't go on holiday dear until I have consulted Mr Fish at the Met Office." !!

Spitefulness doesn't come into it Naomi. Dilly is a public servant, who is being a great deal of money to do a not-very onerous part-time job.

It rather sounds as if the job is beneath him, so I retract nothing from my Bog Off.
Mikey, it wasn't the 'bog off' that attracted my attention.
How many directorships is he currently juggling?
I believe his wife's home is in Jamaica, many miles from Barbados. He lied.
