Hope your family are safe and sound , dreadful incident.
Is this the start?
yes, agree with mamya....statistically unlikely though, retro, if any comfort until they call you.
The R-0-P want to destroy Tourism in Egypt/Tunisia etc that's the point and they are on the way to achieving it. I feel so sorry for the locals in those areas that rely on visitors to survive.
Worrying for you; but in fairness to your son it wasn't that likely to hit the same resort. And changing one's plans because of fear of what might happen is precisely what the terrorist hopes for. Hope they phone you soon with the news that they were nowhere near the incident.

They booked the holiday before the Russian flight was downed. A few months before Christmas in fact. I pleaded with my son to cancel the holiday after Brits were evacuated after the downing of the flight. I was aware of Terrorist activity by ISIS on the Egyptian/Israeli border and told him not a good idea.
He persisted and has taken our 4 year old grand daughter and 10 month grand daughter. How bloody, criminally, irresponsible. Just to prove he is not scared. Big deal. Go on your bloody own then. He shouldn't have taken the kids.
Hope your family are safe retro.

As I've said before, I am yet to fathom (especially in the current climate) why on earth anyone would want to holiday in a Muslim country, it just beggars belief.
All it takes is a sympathetic hotel worker/security guard for a massacre to ensue.
Yes, we can all become victims as the recent events in Paris have shown, it's just that I like to shorten the odds whenever possible.
Hopefully he will phone to confirm that they are okay. We are living in dangerous times with no end in sight.
I said it at the time of the Egypt and Tunisia issues and I'll say it again: What possesses any sane person to set foot in any of these sh1th0les is beyond me. I hope your grand kids get back safely and grow up despite their old man.
I also hope your family are ok.

Noticeable is that none of the F O J are on here supporting you.

I am beginning to despair of Europe, but I do hope that soon the masses will turn on the minority right-on liberal and free us to deal with these fanatical Muslim scum.
|My younger daughter was going to honeymoon inEgypt - . Icounselled against and was shouted down- then there was an incident. Honeymoon took place in Cuba!
Hope all are safe. Curses on windows 10!
Retro, I haven't exactly seen eye to eye with you but on this occasion I truly hope your son and his family are safe and well.
Retro, easy for me to say this but do not worry, it will make you Ill, he has made a very bad judgement but that was his choice / his family, you will get no thanks for your concern & can cause a family fall out, what will be will be, my thought are with you.
Retro....you have my sympathy on this. Why anybody would go on hols to a place like Egypt now is completely beyond me, especially when there are so many other places he could have chosen.

I have my fingers crossed for you !
I really can't understand why one would take a 10 month old baby abroud, but there again, I come from a different era. If one wanted a winter holiday for whatever reason, then one is limited to the Far East as the middle Eastern countries seem to be terrorist "hot spots."

I sympathise with your son.........is one to let the terrorists win?
Sqad.... I don't think you need to go long-haul to get some sun at this time of year. The Canaries seem to be popular at this time of year, although I haven't been there myself.

But I share your concern about taking such a young baby on any holiday abroad.
Retro, the reports say this incident has been dealt with, in that the killers are themselves dead. The poor people who copped it appear to be Swedish and Austrian. So perhaps that helps put your mind at rest. I agree with everything said about Egypt, the Middle East and Tunisia at present - heartbreaking all round as these are wonderful places in their own right for holidays, but for me just not worth the risk.
Maybe as with other resorts your son and his family will be brought back early. Try not to be too hard on him - one big factor that drove this choice was probably the very low costs at present. Hope all will be well.

Thank you all for your kind messages of support and concerns. Still no news from them. Typical.!! Standing by. Probably unaware what has gone on around them. I hope the holiday rep has, this morning, appraised them of what sort of situation they have taken themselves to and they do not wander out of the resort accomodation. :-(
Statistically travel to Egypt is still safe.
If you think about how many resorts, hotels and tourists there are at any one time. These terrorists and radicals like to remind us that they aren't going away and geographically, Egypt lends its self to being a target. This current situation is contained. Hope all ok
