Great Gawd almighty. This gets trotted out every year.
If the edidtor of the Guardian chose to visit Nigeria he would note a disproportionate amount of black police officers. Surprise surprise.
The UK is still, just about,a white country.
Could the real reason for this question be another opportunity to pursue the usual racist agenda, allowing the customary support to come in from the phoney patriots ?
Yes and I imagine he would find that a "disproportionate" number of them are men as well.

The opportunity is available for people from ethnic minorities to join the police. Provided they have the required qualifications and qualities I would suggest that their chances of being recruited are more than equal to those of their white counterparts. The fact is that for various reasons they don't want to. That's their choice and so that's that.

There is nothing racist about my agenda. I see no bar to people from any race joining police forces in the UK. The opportunity is there for anyone. They choose not to join. If there is any racist behaviour demonstrated by anyone it is by the minorities themselves for refusing to join in the mainstream occupations that the majority of the population feel able to do.

You could hardly say that this individual was not helped along the way.
He abused his authority and spent more time in court defending himself than prosecuting his fellow wrongdoers.
If you were to ask 20 random black youths on the streets of Brixton if they had considered a career with the police I can guarantee they wouldn't be saying,"Well yes. Good pension prospects, Promotion prospects, plenty of different departments to test my expertise and interests and a chance to help my community"!!

Don't go to Peckham and ask the same question . All the yoofs are probably lying low as another stabbing has just been announced on the radio.
This has come up before, the FACT is that a high %, particularly of Afro Caribbean people, still regard the police as oppressors. They are shunned, alienated and treated as outcasts by their own community if they choose to join the ranks of the oppressors.
The government still seem unable to grasp this uncomfortable fact!

Exactly. You can lead a horse to water etc.

The reply you would probably get would be something like, "You sh****in me man. Why if I even spoke to one of them ras clouts I would be popped a cap by the bros quicker than leroy on a rocket. They disses us"
Takers not makers...want everything handed to them on a plate ...no change there then...always someone else to blame...slavery etc blah blah...never their own fault...bags of chips on sagging shoulders
Why should black people be less intelligent than white people? Do black people want to become police officers in any case?
//Do black people want to become police officers in any case?//
As this question is asked frquently your answer is a resounding NO. This exercise in box ticking started long ago and failed. It should be kicked into the long grass.
My youngest son ( now aged 33) living in London applied three times to join the Met only to be told they were only recruiting ethnic and female candidates at the time. Likewise he tried the LFB and told a similar story.
The opportunities are there but are not taken so we should forget the experiment and get the right calibre of recruit who genuinely wishes to join for his/her own good reasons.
Better start recruiting quickly as the way officers are currently being treated we might need some new blood to defend us.
"“When I said I wanted to work for the police, my friends said, ‘Why? We hate the police." "..I am working for the enemy."

Pretty much describes the problem.

Most security men around here are black
Tambo
They do not have power of arrest or detention.May be the old criminal justice act of citizens arrest but I could well imagine a black security guard or doorman in Croydon could well be on the recieving end of a drive by shooting if he touched his brothers.
It is peer pressure as much as anything else amongst black youth. It is cooler to be a law breaker it seems in a feral gang.
I've always thought that the National Black Police Association and the National Association of Muslim Police (or whatever their exact titles) are racist organisations - what chance the police treating people equally if they themselves see themselves as diferent from their colleagues.
oops - different
cactus
The Police Federation of England and Wales represent all police officers of all colour race religion or creed. There should be no seperate splinter groups. It causes distrust and resentment and dare I say much mischief.
@retrocop

Exactly
O dear - I think retro's son's place was taken by my g-niece who ticks both boxes - girl and british afro caribbean

and yes she gets sworn at by erm everyone
( and loves being a detective thingey )

she's in her twenties and blimey the police arent badly paid !
PP
I am sure my son would bear her no grudges. And as for me, I wouldn't want my son any where near the service these days. I prefer force but PC dictates we say service which is a joke in two respects but that is not the fault of the troops on the ground.
In her 20s is a bit young to be a CID officer isn't it. Her warrant card ink can hardly have dried yet?
