Yes, I don't think Jerusalem though. Apart from sounding like it's named after the wrong country, it's religious and depressing.
Anyway, Jerusalem is the WI's anthem so it's already been bagged.
Yes it should, not sure what it should be apart from no mention of God or the Queen.
We are the Champions - by Queen. That's a compromise:-)
ha ha - good one.
While searching for an appropriate anthem I happened to find this, not actually an anthem but most appropriate.

My choice for an anthem, 'Land of Hope and Glory' or 'There'll always be an England' perhaps?

The words for 'Land of Hope and Glory' were written by the poet A C Benson and the music by Edward Elgar as part of his Coronation Ode. The coronation in question was that of King Edward VII, who was, of course, the King of Britain, not just England.
Consequently, the 'Land' with all the 'hope' and 'glory' of the title was a reference to the whole of the country. It would be historically absurd if the piece became an English-only anthem.
Pete 65, you wrote the word 'fight' accompanied by a question mark, saying all the Scots had to do in 2014's referendum was put a cross in a box.
That can surely only have meant that you were unable to see that an elective process invariably is a fight! Certainly, it is not a fight involving claymores and muskets or Tridents and stealth bombers, but it's still a fight. That is, it is an action which will produce a 'winner' and a 'loser', even if these are just beliefs/hopes/whatever.
If you can't see where you said what you said, I recommend you go back to your first answer referring to the word, 'fight'. I'll leave it there.
"land of hope and glory" should perhaps not be a candidate for English anthem, because of its "wider still and wider" connotations, and, QED, their association with Cecil Rhodes, whom the educational establishment is doing its best to erase completely from history.......
Poppycock, Quizmonster!
You are putting words in my mouth that I did not say, and then arguing with yourself.
Togo, thanks for your post 16.11 on the first. B.
I think we need a more positive anthem ...

Don't care what you go with - just so long as you go!
Yes. Land of Hope and Glory.
Swing Low Sweet Chariot, there are only the two lines.
maggiebee, we're not going anywhere.
Land of Hope and Glory? "Thine empire shall be strong..." well, of course it will...
Well, I think we're pretty spiffing, jno. ;o)
The land of hope and glory is, I repeat, Britain, not England. (Ref: my post at 11.23 Jan 2nd.)
Quizmonster, no need for a repeat. I read you the first time. No reference to Britain in the lyrics. That would be my choice.
