"Lots of Muslims actually served in World War I and World War II and lots have ancestors who served in the army. We therefore hope that our participation is a clear indication of our desire for peace and unity between all nations, peoples and religions.""

The Caliph and Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said in a statement:

"Muslims are obliged to be loyal to the country in which they live. Honouring those who fought to defend and safeguard one’s country is an important principle of Islam and in fact is an important principle of peace – especially when it is carried out with a sincere heart and for the sake of winning God’s pleasure.""

Thanks for that link, good to read - until I made the mistake of scrolling to comments below.

That part made me angry.

Well done to these young people.
The Ahmadiyya have a bit of history as good guys, Kromo. They are the only "Muslims" I know of who have actually demonstrated AGAINST Islamic terror rather than against the victims of it (that was in my former neck of the woods - Morden in South London, where they have a large mosque). Unfortunately for those who are desperately looking for palpable signs of moderation in the wider Muslim community the Ahmaddiya are heretics. They are forbidden by law in Pakistan to even call themselves Muslim.

wonderful.
The Ahmadiyya's are a strange bunch. Though it is a relatively new sect of Islam, they are very traditional and orthodox.

It's a curse of modern life: we are all invited to have our 3 penny worth after every news story. Whoever started that has a lot to answer for :-)
It brings out the worst in everyone it seems
Aye, it's such a pity Leveson wasn't implemented. We'd only get approved articles and comments then.
We'd all have been singing from the same hymn sheet by now. (or else)
Good news ! And what smart looking lads !
V_E is correct. The mere fact that this is welcome news exposes the norm.
Good, very pleased to read that.
I have an The Ahmadiyya mosque near me (former pub called the 'Odd Fellows'). They are a bit sinister :-/
Be the Queens Head next.
Gromit, //They are a bit sinister //

An explanation is in order.

Oh dear. Now you have two different religious buildings to worry you in your vicinity. Ever thought of leaving the country?
Year or so back you claimed to have no problem with your nearest mosque but the Campanoligists practising their peals in your local Christian church were a serious pain for you.
I can understand that if you are anti-British and abhor Britishness keeping you awake but I still can't understand if your residence pre dates the church being built or did you move to that area after the church was built?
You didn't answer that about 2 years ago when I posed the same question about your frightful dilemma. Way things are going you will probably have several more sinister Imans competing with each other in their minarets and that will drown out those evil British campanologists traditional chimes. Look on the bright side. :-)
Oxford. Dreaming spires. Summoned by bells. Etc.
In ten years time a thousand years history of civilisation will have been trashed and replaced by the call to prayer by a bearded Saudi. A rather poor trade, don't you think?
yeah I dont think only christians fought in 1914

think Turkey, Gallipoli, Lawrence, or the disastrous Mesopotamia campaign

Ahmadiyya are looked on a heretics by the orthodox which is why we have so many ( we dont shoot / stone/ throw them off tall buildings )
O god the ins and outs of Muslim theology makes my brain hurt

worse even than having to listen to the Pope speaking Latin
Retrocop,

We have a puropse built mosque, and an Ahmadiyya house which was previously a pub. The mosque is used by locals who are of Bangladeshi origin. The Ahmadiyya house has worshippers come from all over Manchester who are not really locals.
My problem with the bell ringers has ceased. I have no objections to bells on Sunday morning. What was annoying was the Monday evening when they would peel for several hours very loudly and badly. There were children with school the next day being kept awake. But now they have stopped.
