Just dusting off the Peace In Our Time script for you to use in your defence of the indefensible, Andy. Your loose use of 'hate' and 'hatred' as by so many today suggests a lazy shorthand approach to those daring to disagree with your rosy view of the world. Disgust, disdain, disbelief at the attitude of appeasement toward the unspeakable maybe. But not hatred...

I was brought up as a Catholic, and had a Northern Ireland Dad. There was lots of talk at the time that, as all the IRA were Catholics, therefore we were guilty as well, by association.

Garbage!
No it's not Talbot...
I don't recall any of my lifelong catholics friends EVER being tarred with the IRA stigma.
I was once called a child abuser on here when I mentioned my children had gone to Catholic schools.

That aside, I cannot celebrate this young man's death nor can I rub my hands in glee at any death at all - just not in my nature.

The whole situation is tragic.
Or my lifelong N.I friends (whose parents left Belfast to get away from the troubles)
I was called a terrorist, murdering scum...stuff like that.
Talbot - disagreeing is fine - providing a - shall we say 'robust' response without due explanation is simply being insulting, and against the spirit, and indeed rules, of the site.

Thanks.

I used to regularly shout abuse and condemnation at Ed Milliand when he came on TV - it hasn't thus far made me a failed Labour Leader!

What are you talking about? //

You pondered the notion that pointing out self-righteousness in others makes me in turn self-righteous.

I used an analogy to demonstrate that shouting at Ed Millband for his failings does not mean that I adopted his failings personally.

Perhaps it was a little left-field (no pun intended!) - hope this more straightforward post clears up the misunderstanding.

That's funny, I was brought up a Catholic with an NI father but not once in my life did anyone point the finger at me after an IRA atrocity. Personal anecdotes aside, you're comparing apples and pears. The left-wing IRA claimed they wanted a united Ireland, they didn't want a worldwide Celtiphate. And I was never taught that Catholics were superior to everyone else or that we could only have world peace when everyone was a Catholic.
Baldric - //It might not be in my lifetime Andy (I'm 63) but I'm reasonably certain there are the makings of a Major Conflict in this Country between the Muslim Population and the Indigenous Population. I'm not saying all Muslims are Extremists but I believe a fairly high percentage of them would be prepared to conceal extremists within their communities until such time as the Revolution begins. Remember these Guys want Global Muslimisation //

I believe that your views on Muslims are coloured by our increasingly alarmist media, which is where everyone - and I include myself - receive their perception of IS and its aims.

I think alarmism sells papers and generates viewing figures, but that does not make it healthy - or indeed accurate.

Remember the weeks and weeks of 'shock horror. the Millennium Big is coming ...!' and what happened? The people who know about these things quietly got on with their preparations and fixes, and when midnight came, as far as the general population are concerned - nothing happened - nothing at all!

Remember 'Bird Flu' was going to be the end of civilisation as we know it?

Football hooliganism, The National Front, Nuclear Bombs ... everything was going to cause a fundamental shift in the way every one of us lives and exists ...

What about the death of bees, which will mean the death of all life on earth?

What about 'In the year 2000 (about nineteen years away at the time the 'message' was put out - everyone will know someone who is HIV!!!!!'

It is scaremongering, and it is fundamentally wrong, and the 'threat' of Muslims is the latest in a long line, and it does not mean it is real, or has any prospect of being real.

If everyone stopped believing the media's propaganda, we would all be a lot happier, because they are not basing their stories on truths, merely on maybes, and whatifs, and that is not news, or fact, it is scaremongering, and it is wrong, and should not be encouraged.

We do, however, have a very good precedent, andy, for what will happen. Just look at every other country in the world they have infected.

What a joke, I refer you to your opening post.

'Yet again the Muslim haters queue up to gloat about the death of a child.'

That is what I call insulting

It wasn't too left field it was just a terrible, terrible analogy.
ummmm

/// No, not a child but young enough to be easily manipulated. ///

Oh please excuse him as he was young and easily manipulated?????????????

Would you excuse him in such a way if he had been 'manipulated' to rape and kill a number of innocent girls?
///I believe that your views on Muslims are coloured by our increasingly alarmist media, which is where everyone - and I include myself - receive their perception of IS and its aims////

Wrong, I am not in the least swayed by an alarmist media, after 20 yrs in The RM's and the work I did afterwards before becoming self employed I can see what's happening for myself.

///I think alarmism sells papers and generates viewing figures, but that does not make it healthy - or indeed accurate.///

Not to me it doesn't, and I agree.

As I said I believe what I see and hear for myself, we have Muslim friends through my Wife's work, (NHS Professional) so get to hear both sides of the story and there is not half as much scaremongering as you would like to think there is.

Throwing homosexuals off high buildings, decapitating hostages, setting light to prisoners, crucifiction, rape, killing a child and feeding it to his mother as a stew.

That is not media propaganda. That is fact. Documented and photographed.
That is not scaremongering. That is terrorism at the hands of muslims. and THAT IS WRONG AND SHOULD'NT BE ENCOURAGED.
AH. Go and tell IS your views about what they are doing wrong. At least you escape with your head on this site.

No, that is terrorism at the hands of murdering psychopaths, and if I could be bothered, I could trawl through the news reports and match every atrocity with something the Allied Forces did during their time invading other countries - but that is not the issue.

Suggesting, and encouraging the view that Muslim psychopath murderers are who and what they are because they have the word 'muslim' in front of their label is what is wrong - and that is where the scaremongering comes in.

//AH. Go and tell IS your views about what they are doing wrong. At least you escape with your head on this site. //

Oh please - if you were to pop over and suggest that they are all murdering psychos, which they are - you would receive a similar reception!

Retrocop, not sure how long you've been out of 'The Job' but have a look at my post @ 1355 and tell me what you think. Ta!
andy hughes - after a quick read through this thread so far, I'm heartened by your comments, standing out as they do amid the one-zero binary approach of most of the other posts. You are at least trying to state a thoughtful, reasonable viewpoint while making it clear you don't condone this young man's actions, and I'm sorry though completely unsurprised at the tone of many of the responses to you. I agree with you; we need to constructively consider why young people can be apparently so easily radicalized to commit such atrocities, and try to understand it, if we are to have any hope of combating and ending it.
