Well to be honest the post of Welsh Secretary is never likely to be a job for life whatever party you represent but It would be a bit cheeky to criticise from the view of a long term immigrant who has nicked a Welshman's job and can' t show the respect to say sorry Dai Bach in their native language. :-)

Appropos of absolutely nothing really, just a mention there about speaking Welsh and its difficulties. I think it is a daft language, but Mr. J2 lived there for some years (not in the Valleys, somewhere rather rural), joined a male-voice choir and learned to speak Welsh enough to get by. It depends on your priorities and where you live I suppose. I have a good friend (Welsh) who manages only a couple of words. That's all - probably another subject.

The big difficulty for the English who speak no other language is the mutations ( the vowels at the beginning of the sentence dictate the vowels towards the end ). I cant beleive any Indo European language is fiendishly difficult
oh yeah and north welsh is different to south welsh - and why not I say

Chilli I thought you were in the south west - the welsh speakers tend(ed) to make sure one was available for emergence from anaesthesia altho this may have changed. We also had grandchildren accompany their welsh-only grandparents. I dont know how people can get thro life w/o learning English. It must be lonely in them thar hills .....
