Od course these characters have reformed (i.e. stopped smuggling drugs). They've been in the Chokey for ten years! As has been said, it is quite well known that many far eastern countries have the death penalty available for such crimes. They were stupid. They should have brought their contraband to the UK. They'd have long since served their sentence...

What the hell have Irishman got to do with this post? You or I have no right to determine the constitution or legal affairs of another countries penal code.It really is not a matter for us,in the UK , to disagree with. We do not have the death penalty for drug smuggling. They do!!! End of.Do you think you can smuggle drugs in Indonesia and when caught say,"But we don't top our death dealers in the UK it aint cricket"?
One word. No.
The problem is that Eastern countries make far more use of capital punishment than Western ones. It is within the last ten years that two fifteen year old boys were publicly hanged from cranes in Iran (so that they would strangle rather than have their necks broken) for the crime of indulging in homosexual activity. This would strike us as barbaric, but not the Iranians.

An 18 year old and a 16 year old were executed in Iran for the rape of a 13 year old boy. Whilst I do not support the death penalty, the rape of a 13 year old is a Different crime than just being homosexual.

That might be a different case, gromit. There's no argument, I presume, that homosexuals are executed under some Islamic regimes, including your beloved Palestinian Authority. I read years ago about a very young boy being executed because he was raped by an uncle (Iran, I think) Young girls face the same danger in Muslim countries.
Sorry for wandering off topic. Don't agree with the death penalty for anything. The War on Drugs doesn't seem to be working. Why not try something different?
agree with sve...^^
I firmly believe that the death penalty has no place in any society.
Killing people is wrong, whether by the state, or anyone else.

So smuggled drugs don't kill then Pete?
Less than unsmuggled drugs.
NO
Baldric, I did not say that.
My view is that the death penalty, for any crime, is wrong.

I didn't say you did Pete, just asked you a question!
I know little about drugs or drug smuggling, Baldric, so I can't help you there.
No second chance from me.

If you can't do the time, dont do the crime. It'd pretty much documented what will happen to you in these countries. Either a very long stretch in a proper jail or the Saddam shuffle.
