Surely the idea of us maintaining palaces and huge houses for a massive extended family to live in with the servants and maids fawning around them 24hrs a day is something that has had its day, and yes even it is a penny(which it ain`t) I should be able to opt out and let the ones who want to pay go and wave little flags at them when they sweep past in the daimlers.
If everyone could opt out of every thing they disagree with then...... Lol
Well I think its great news and makes a change from all the horrible news in the news at the moment.
Agreed Tigger - I hope it's twins.
Now there's an idea, a heir, a spare and a spare spare!
barney - you say it's not a penny a day. How much is it, and where's the link?
Agreed Tigger - I hope it's twins.
wouldn't that be a first for the british royal family?
I'm delighted for them, just as I would be for any young couple building their family. Hope it's a little girl, a sister for George.
I've already posted that link, baldric

Oops, missed that, don't panic, it won't put the price up Jordan!
Doh! I said a penny a day. I meant, a penny a week.
'' I hope it's twins '' :)
I've just heard and immediate thought - Oh No loads more anti Royal venom on AB for months now..
Doh! I said a penny a day. I meant, a penny a week.
perhaps some of the tightwad republicans will have a rethink about their vote now
Triplets then Anne?
see this miniscule amount I'm obliged to pay for the upkeep of the royal family, can I give mine to a children's charity instead ? a much more deserving cause.
Would the anti-monarchists be happy to see Buck House up for sale to the highest bidder? You can be sure it would either be a Saudi or an Eastern European/Russian oligarch, they are the only ones that could afford it.
that's not how it works anne.

yonks ago, George III forfeit the income from his estates in return for a fixed sum from the government each year, with the government taking the profits; every monarch since then has made the same choice. today, the difference between the estates income and the civil list is a profit of £160m. if the monarchy were abolished, queenie would become mrs Windsor of acacia avenue, billionaire landlord, and the government would need to tax you £2.50 more each year to make up the difference.

52p out of pocket? or £2.50 out of pocket? your call.
they're merely custodians of the 'wealth'. And very disciplined too. If I was king I'd go and live on a Caribbean Island staffed by nubile Russian maids. I'd certainly have no interest in meeting any plebs, let alone entertaining them.
