This singer called Dencia comes from the Cameroons. If someone told her that she had to take steps to look like a white girl, she would rightly be outraged. Isn't what she is doing, and profiting from it would seem, just exploitation ? And why does she have to wear sunglasses indoors ?

She looks far sexier with normal skin colour. With white skin she looks grotesque.
She's made her own choice, but it shouldn't be necessary.
Her natural skin colour suits her- she looks like something out of a horror film with white skin. The colour is too white and makes her look thinner.
I wouldn't say "grotesque", but she looks much better with her natural skin colour, imo.
Equally why do a lot of white people go to great lengths to get a tan (go brown)

Good point Psybbo ! I don't sunbathe myself, as I am afraid of skin cancers. Anyway, if I were to take my clothes off on the beach, people would gather around and start pushing me back into the sea, having mistaken me for a large white whale.

I think this silly and extremely irritating woman is setting a bad example to other black girls. And she appears to making a lot of money out of it as well. And I wish she would take her sunglasses off !
Whilst it seems a strange thing to waste money on, if it's what she wants ...

I think she looks good in both photos though. But I'm unsure about the pink lipstick.
I lived in Zambia for 3 years and skin whitening cream was very popular with the local females, adverts for it all over the place.
Michael Jackson must have used it too.
My partner and I went to Thailand on holiday last year, and skin whitening creams are very popular there too.

It's a popular attitude - the lighter the skin, the 'better' you are. It's not necessarily to look white per se (because let's be frank, a black person or an Asian with very light skin still doesn't look like a Caucasian).

As to the 'why' - don't know. Perhaps it's a societal thing...there may still be the attitude that darker skinned people are less worthy.

An attitude which really needs to be left in the past.

I don't like the skin-bleached look. Watching the T20 cricket today, there was a woman (possibly an Indian or Pakistani player's wife) who looked very bleached. She didn't look good like that.
i have heard that about lighter skin being considered 'better' too - not really sure why, just a general society thing i suppose

kind of silly and weird but its so ingrained, it will be a long time before it disappears, sadly

i guess i can understand people with very very dark skin, the sort that genuinely is almost black in colour, wanting SLIGHTLY lighter skin - for contour, definition, tone, to make features more visible etc, but i'd think only a few shades, not whiter than most white people!

she does look weird in that pic - she has gone a bit far.

theres probably also something of the natural desire to want the opposite of what you naturally are - straight haired want curly, short want to be taller etc etc - grass is greener type of mentality
Lighter skin better? Rubbish a good tan looks much better (although not Essex orange ones!)
I can see the possible desire to make features more visible. It is one of life's sad aspects it is less easy to make out the features of a beautiful black woman when seeing them across the street than the features of a white woman. But I still think someone who is "very very dark" should be expected to be proud of their appearance rather than wish for something different. I guess we all feel we could look slightly better if only something was different.

Having looked at the film clip now I see she doesn't actually look anything like either picture any more. I think the second at least, was 'touched up' to make her seem exaggeratedly light.
I'm a whit guy & I say to you Dencia '' Black is beautiful don't spoil yourself girl''
Dencia's explanation certainly didn't stand up - apart from the part where she said she was an adult and can do as she wishes.

As to wearing sunglasses indoors - I interviewed two musicians last week, both of whom were wearing sunglasses - a man and a woman. The woman advised it was because she hadn't finished her make-up yet, and the man said it was because he had bags under his eyes from constant lack of sleep caused by touring - both of which are fair enough explanations in my view.

He also added that it is a layer of 'insulation' between the musician and the large number of complete strangers he meets every day.

I found that one less believeable - of you don't want to meet strangers and look them in the eye - don'tbe a high-profile musician and tour the world!
Another idiot with too much £££££££££££££££ that does not know what to do in their sad life.
TWR, You clearly dislike the woman!

Its not the case of dislike Ratters, there are people out there with more serious problem than this, she wants to live in a real world, the world I live in.
