This singer called Dencia comes from the Cameroons. If someone told her that she had to take steps to look like a white girl, she would rightly be outraged. Isn't what she is doing, and profiting from it would seem, just exploitation ? And why does she have to wear sunglasses indoors ?

She made a perfectly valid point in the interview. People are always changing their appearance to get the look they desire. It could be sunbeds for whites and skin lightening cream for blacks. What is the difference?

I don't know if it's about being a white person per se, it maybe more to do with social standing as it was here centuries ago, if you were tanned people knew you were a peasant because you worked in the fields all day as opposed to a whiter person who didn't. Perhaps it's just come down the generations and few attitudes have changed, who knows.

The most common chemical used in skin whitening creams is also used in photographic developers. The label on the container has a warning about skin contact, so obviously the stuff to slather over youself! It is now difficult to obtain this chemical in the UK because internet sales have been blocked which is a bluddy nuisance.
In some countries a pale skin is seen as a status symbol because traditionally it meant that you either came from the lighter skinned aristocracy and not of Moorish descent (Spain) or were not a peasant who worked outdoors(almost everywhere).

My partner works in showbiz, and explained another reason why so many celebs wear sunglasses at 'inappropriate' time. It's to do with the paparazzi...have you ever noticed shots of celebs exiting a nightclub with the strap line, "So and so looking bleary comes out of nightclub X"?

Well, in many cases, the photographer has simply got a shot of someone blinking...and then papers run the story saying that the star in question was mullered...when they're not.

I think both our explanations are valid - but i did like Taylor Momsen's honesty about her make-up! She was lovely, utterly unaffacted and a really pleasant young lady - an excellent 'role model', as the papers would say - and she and I would disagree violently with them!!

i can totally understand the sunglasses being a 'barrier' to other people.
just because someone is famous does not mean that they dont just want to hide sometimes and be alone, but they cant
i think we all get that feeling when we are out in public and just want to hide at home - must be 50-fold if you are famous and know everything you do is being watched and analysed.

of course some do just do it to be cool and arrogant etc

i am not an actor - and i don't really want to be - but i have done a little bit and i found wearing glasses on one occasion - that were real and not my prescription - actually helped with nerves a bit, because i couldn't see the audiences faces properly ...

i saw here interviewed on the tv the other day, her skin colour didn't look anywhere near as white as in that photo. I would have said coffee coloured,
which still didn't look overly natural. The interviewer asked her about this matter, i honestly can't remember what she replied, she did come across as being a bit of a valley girl
