Can't believe the school incident hasn't been discussed here!

Does anyone feel the teacher should be sacked for doing this?
I can't help thinking it was a last resort to carry out this foul deed! I suppose she could have gone to the headmaster, but if think she should keep her job.
What do you think?

Bleeding lips from Sellotape?

It must be much better Sellotape than you get around here.

I want some.
In the current climate of no-one can punish my child, what sanctions are considered acceptable? I've encountered parents who would not allow their child to be disciplined, no lines, detentions, even at break etc etc and complaints if a voice was raised above what the brat thought acceptable. Some parents need to get into schools and see what disruption their badly behaved off-spring are creating, other children are being prevented from learning. At the end of the day, if a child doesn't want to learn, put your head down and go to sleep, your teacher will gets paid and the good pupils can learn, a win win situation. Anyone saying that a piece of sellotape causes bleeding is lying, I can hear the kerching of a compo claim coming on.
Rubbish! If the School has on its list of sanctions along with lines, detention, cooler, loss of privileges etc Sellotaping then my child would not be attending that School.

Punishments are fine as long as they make sense and are in proportion, not done in a moment of loss of control or as she says 'in jest'.
Of course sellotape can make your lips bleed. I've done it plenty of times wrapping presents....

Compo claim...very very unlikely.

Why do people always think its about money? It's not..!!

ummmm

///Of course sellotape can make your lips bleed. I've done it plenty of times wrapping presents..///

Duh. Try using yer hands, Ummmm.
I'll bet there's a whole load of teachers who would just LOVE to do what she did . I don't know what all the fuss is about. I think she was quite right to do it. Come on folks, don't make a big thing out of it. It's not as if she stapled their lips together!! Oh, there's an idea...
I've selloptaped many pressies over the years, but never once had "lip bleed" because of it. Where can we buy this killer sellotape in Sussex?
Selloptaped? Sorry, typo. I must've had silly tape stuck to my fingers as I typed.
I think the police were wrong to say it is not their concern. I think it is very much their concern. Surely it is assault. If any of those children had breathing difficulties there could well have been serious consequences.
I find Gaffer tape works better
I think the disgruntled parents should ask themselves how their little angels were behaving to drive her to it !! Wrong of her , but if it were my child I'd be looking to sort their behaviour out and allow the teacher a quiet telling off !
Yeah, and IF they were allergic to sellotape their little heads could have swollen up to the size of a basketball.
Lot of fuss about nothing. Bring back the cane,I say. Thrash the little blighters on a regular basis and give them something to whinge about.
Why didnt she use that flavored carmine coloured araldite ?
Gottle of Geer ! The parents would have mercifully silent children for a day or two and never know why

Class puni-ment Dive buddy - remember it well.
A group of us decided that puni-ing the whole class was 'unfair' so owned up to being the miscreants and promptly was asked if double the noise was worth double the punishment (!!) - nodded sullenly whimpered yes miss and got it twice !

This taught us at an early age at a character building school that Honesty was often NOT the best policy - an important life lesson

and not to volunteer anything. My father spent 5 y in Germany after Dunkirk and learnt that lesson so we all thought we were lucky

The teacher ? oh she got fired for faking her degree but that was Much Later.

and yes the parents had to pay fees for this.

I smell compensation from the hard pressed education authority.

Still I doubt the parents care, a new cell phone will be much better to them than a childs education.

Having said that the teacher was out of order. BUT, I suspect there were reasons, probably the badly bought up brats are uncontrollable.
Regarding compensation, if it was not genuine sellotape it is a wonder that the company that makes this particular brand of 'clear adhesive tape' doesn't take the Daily Mail to court for bringing their product into disrepute.
absolutely disgusting, sellotape?? Amateur! I would get her some proper gaffer tape! The problem is that a generation of right on liberal, lefty thinking has removed any chance of control from teachers and any potential for respect. The kids know their rights and have enormous power over teachers and adults generally and they know it.
wonder if she has rules regarding what colours you can paint flowers

quite so, Chewn, and why stop at children? Why not try Sellotaping the random bloke in Tesco because you don't like him talking?

Of course you'd never do that because he's big enough to respond. Kids are too small to fight back. Which sounds suspiciously like the definition of bullying.
