one of the accused over Lee Rigby's murder has described himself as a Soldier of Allah, if so are there more who will follow his example and see this as a war with the west. The family of Lee Rigby must be devastated
having to listen to the evidence.

It would be unwise of us not to believe that there are more self-styled 'Soldiers Of Allah', emmie. Whether or not they would be prepared to carry out any such atrocities is for time to tell. What has probably happened is that all servicemen and women will have been put on full alert immediately following Lee Rigby's death, even when at home on leave. Which is, of...

I agree with j t p
interesting defence (allowing for transatlantic spelling)

I have been wide eyed with statements on the line of:
my defence is that I killed him...

and I thought - interesting defence, I wonder if it will succeed, and if it does succeed at what ?

Altho' as we all know as we have been told a zillion times, Nelson Mandela's defence was I did it and I did it because.....
Oh so you never disagree with anyone sp ??? Rubbish !!
Oh Dear jake you seem to be today's Hate Object.
Hate object - bit OTT !!
viv38

Yes - that's the whole point of debates in AB.

I disagree with JTP's conclusions, but I would argue against them, rather than take cheap pot shots at her.
Whose taking cheap pot shots ???
Oh and bully for you !
Lee Rigby's killers are utter scum and deserve to hang. But we (by which I mean USA with our support) have "murdered" plenty of completely innocent men women and children with indiscriminate drone attacks. We just don't care who else dies if we think we might also get the one guy we want to kill. It's this sort of gung-ho approach that makes more and more people hate us enough to carry out their own atrocities.
And who does Anjem Chaudhery believe in?
.

j t p : Even if you are a soldier, if you're caught operating behind enemy linesyou're at the very least goint to be spending a long long time behind bars.

um no where did you get that from ? I would have thought quite a short time and shot in short order nowadays........ but

In 2WW the dog tags were the thing. If you had your dog tags you could swan around in civilian clothes -as my father did when he escaped. He said he was worried when the civilian police turned him over to the Gestapo but ended up back in a camp.
You could go for walks if you gave "your parole" [ not to escape ] whilst on the walk. And so it was in Berlin there were groups of POWs in British uniform wandering around under suitable escort, 40 -45 and no one turned a hair because everyone was in uniform. The Germans had the least percentage in reserved occupations.

Chilldoubt started.

emmie continued.

AOG then continued.

The thing is - I would have answered JTP's argument with something along the lines of:

"No matter how justified these so-called soldiers of Allah felt they were, all they have done is further strengthened the resolve of the British public, whilst simultaneously ramped up anti-Muslim feeling.

Furthermore, I can't see a correlation between acts on the battlefield and murder on streets of London."

After that, JTP may have responded.

But n...once again, something important descends into meaningless factional nonsense.

Do not agree that they were cheap pot shots and I agree with them.

Thank you so much for letting me know what YOU would have responded with, I'll sleep better in my bed tonight now ......
Part of the defence

q. and so you killed Lee Rigby ?
a. Yes

but the defendant insists he should not be found guilty
viv38

Oh...for goodness sake.

This is how it always goes on the News section.

Okay - no worries. I was only trying to stop this thread from descending into a non-debate.

Fill yer boots.
Let's all hope Viv38 has not been wrongly identified as a drone target and one is winging her way as we speak.
Browntrout, drone attacks are not 'indiscriminate'. If the potential targets of drone attacks (I'm sure they know who they are)had an any concern for their families they would either send them away or themselves live away from their families.
Jomifl,

Yes, that's what I would do. But that doesn't alter the fact - as you are agreeing- that we don't mind killing innocent people. besides, it's not just in homes is it. anyone in the same vehicle or café for instance is also fair game.
Something of a tangent but to make a point.
These killers will be convicted of murder and will get 'life' with a long tariff. In UK prisons ALL 'lifers' are given a single cell so they will get 'solitary confinement'
EDDIE51

Really? I didn't know that.

But does 'solitary confinement' mean that? I thought that SC was a punishment over and above confinement (eg. 23 hours a day in a cell with just a bed and bucket).
Shame we don't have the death penalty to remove this scum-bag and similar.
