AOG - I think you are seeing outrage where honestly, none exists.

As Sqad points out, the notion of a white woman with a black husband / boyfriend was indeed cause for comment years ago, but now it is not so.

If this had been 1953, not 2013, the artist may have had a point, but if it was 1953, no-one would have known what a 'performance artist' was, so he would simply have been perceived as odd.

It actually says that black men see being in a relationship with white women as a status symbol. If anyone is being offended by such men, it is therefore black women.

Demeaning to white women ? Well, if that's what you think, AOG, even after reading the Daily Mail article. Didn't know the Mail was that interested in art, so I have learned something; it is not even interested in finding an excuse to show naked women , unless perhaps the woman is in a music video.

Is it that it involves a black man and white women that attracts your interest? If it had been black women, in those poses, would you adjudge it demeaning to them ?

I see 'a status symbol' as an achievement, a conquest, a possession, nothing more than a commodity, nothing at all to do with upsetting black women.

If some women are not bothered about being classed as a commodity, then that is entirely up to them

Not according to what the artist said, he reckons the issue is that 'now about black men who might think of being with white women as a status symbol,’

which is not the same as saying that women are trophies to be hung around their necks, simply that he regards this as a point about a 'complex issue'.

As stated, I think he is miles wide of the mark, but to take his supposition and post it as a statement is to distort what he said in a sensationalising manner.

AOG, the men who do this are, in their (admittedly rather pathetic) opinion putting white women before black women. I'm sure some black women would be offended by this, whatever your own opinion of such women may be.
