"shipping Container" Accomodation

What do you think of this idea?

They look clean and cosy and could be a good alternative to living in squalid bedsits and the like with shared facilities.

Looks like they have a small hob, can't see any oven but maybe some space for a small microwave.

I think it's a good idea, why not, if the people living in them don't mind, though I wouldn't want to stare at a load of them from my living room window :)
Are they insulated? I imagine fuel bills will be quite high.

I hope the "air conditioning" works, otherwise it's going to be like living in a tin can in winter. But basically, yes, sounds like a great idea.

I think it's a good idea but I'd avoid buying one near the docks. You might wake up one morning halfway to Rotterdam.

It's an excellent idea and could be rolled out across the country with precious little hindrance where there is a will to do so.......

They use these quite a bit in Saudi, my mate has been out there converting them.

Probably a tad cold in this country in the winter here though

I think inside there would be very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer.

I saw this earlier, brilliant idea. However whilst I realise I'm a tight northerner is there no one else who thinks £75 per week is still very expensive? Is that the going rate for rooms in London?

I live just outside London and the rent for a double room would be about £100 a week, a one bedroom flat would be £650-700.

Hit submit too soon, where those containers are going it'll be more than that. The nearer they are to the tube line will also bump up prices on private accom

Things way up north certainly are cheaper! My daughter rents a 2 bedroomed house for £475 per month.

B00: Us notherers don't want to be paying £75 a week for a room or shared accommodation! You can get a rented house in a not so bad area for around £400 - £500 a month. I've seen shared houses for £40 a week + electric and water rates on top.
