What do you think of this idea?

They look clean and cosy and could be a good alternative to living in squalid bedsits and the like with shared facilities.

Looks like they have a small hob, can't see any oven but maybe some space for a small microwave.

I'm surprised no-one thought to do this with all those decommissioned Police Boxes.........after all, they are far bigger on the inside than on the outside. :o)
The great north south divide. My brother has just got a one bedroom HA flat, thats just shy of £100 per week.
B00: looks like I was close there then. Since I hadn't seen your post I think I got the money just about spot on by the sounds of how much your daughter pays.
Yeah Dizmo, I realise accommodation in London is more expensive, just didn't realise it was THAT expensive-shocking innit?

Diz, no one down here wants to be paying it either but that's what it costs. The wages are not there any more to support such high rents, people must be on the floor, poor sods.
Everything is expensive down THAT London. I sold some artwork to a showroom a few years ago and they laughed at my prices saying "well you can't be making much can you". So I replied "Well I'm going to charge you £300 more then".
I'm surprised it has taken them this long to come up with the idea.

They've been used in Iraq & Afghanistan as accommodation for years.
rocky: I think the same thing applies everywhere. The wages are not amazing anywhere and still at £400 a month for an O.K rented property in the midlands you will be in a village/town that is not very desirable.
And for those critics who say they look ugly, I'm sure these containers could be fitted with a pitched-roof by way of making them look less boxy....and called 'Park-Homes'.
There's been one parked round the corner on someone's drive for the past year, (it really is ugly), I wonder if they're renting it out ;)
I've got 3 shipping containers down my garden. Who wants to live in them? Since I'm from up north I'd only charge ya £40 and tha gets a meal unall - chips n peas lad.
There ya go Diz, property dveloping.

There is power to all 3 and I'm sure I can stick some heating in there. As long as you don't mind me firing up my welder and angle grinder at 2 o'clock in the morning then I think we will be fine.
Flipping heck, I'd be terrified if I was living in the house next door.
My parents moved into a "Prefab' after the war and it was only a tad larger than a shipping container. The prefab made a great home and we were very happy there. They were only meant to be a temporary measure but some were still going 40 odd years later.
In all seriousness, I imagine if one is homeless and desperate for shelter this would be a palace for them, and I'm sure they'd welcome it.
In London there is a few on top of each other and was used in a TV advert.
