Does the Queen really think that this will be just like any normal Cabinet meeting, if not what's the point?

Doubt she'll think it's just a normal cabinet meeting. It seems she's going there as part of her Jubilee celebrations and to receive a gift.
No point what so ever imo aog.
She has met with all the living Past and present Prime Ministers several times before. The Queen is known to have like some of her Prime Ministers and to have not liked one or two others. I don't think Margaret Thatcher will be well enough to attend this one.

There isn't any reason for it, it has just become a tradition with our present Monarch, and I thought you liked traditions.

You are wrong of course it is not a tradition, it is the first time she has attended a Cabinet meeting, and the first monarch to do so since Queen Victoria.

/// Queen to become first monarch to attend Cabinet since Victoria ///

AOG, you ask 'what's the point?', but what's your point in asking? I can't see a problem with the invitation.
it's part of DC's I'm-not-going-to-be PM-after-the-next-election-better-get-a-knighthood-quick campaign
^^ What nonsense!
^^

You thought I was being serious?

Hmm - mind you, now you come to mention it.....
:o)
And there I thought she was going to go and collect in person the £600 for their over 80 fuel allowances.
if i was the Queen i would sack the lot of them.

The Royal family are well known for their love of bloodsports. Perhaps seeing the Coalition at work will remind her of an illegal dog fight?

Or perhaps Cameron is getting his name down early for the next meeting of ex-Prime Ministers?

If a bona fide Cabinet meeting is not going to take place, and I can assure you it defiantly won't, it will just be a stage acted performance, specially put on for the Queen's benefit.

So I say again "What's the point".
There is a regular Tuesday meeting at Buck House between the Queen and Prime Minister. This week it is being held at Downing St. because she is attending a lunch in honour of the Diamond Jubilee. Because she is already there she will symbolically attend a cabinet meeting. The point is that we have a Monarch and this is one of the rituals that goes with it.
the point... i think betty is being given a wee present ! a cup of tea, then back home to the tv :)
It's the last Cabinet meeting before Christmas where they usually get pissed out of their minds - so Liz decided to go along and make sure they behaved themselves this Jubilee year.
a pretty good explanation as to why she was there.
