If he had drunk what he claims, he was incredibly well coordinated.
that was a quick turnaround....i.e. getting him to prison - should have been double the sentence given his past form though..........
//several cans of Stella Artois and three-quarters of a litre of vodka before even travelling to Sheffield for the match, and a further seven to 10 pints of cider after arriving in the city.//

Yeah right - probably gets a 'hard man' head after 2 pints.
As he has already been banned (twice I believe) another one is surely pointless.
4 months? He'll be out in 6 weeks.
When I saw it on the news and he slipped after attacking the goalie, he didn't hurt himself sufficiently imo.
I'm disappointed in Kirkland....... most goalies would have decked the plonker.

He was sentenced at a magistrate's court. Could he not have been sent to a crown Court for sentencing? His action could have inflamed more violence in an already fraught situation.
Exactly... Don't believe a word.

jem
He must have been drunk if he thought he would get away with it.
If I had consumed that amount of incohol I would be so sound asleep that all goalkeepers could rest safely.

More stupid than drunk, maybe?

That was in answer to Tonyav's answer.^^^
I can balance stupid and drunk quite well :-)
Whilst the moron should have been punished, the actions of kirkland were embarrassing to say the least.

Gets a shove, not a hit or even a slap and goes down like hes been hit by sniper fire and then lays on the ground like hes mortally injured.

For Funks Sake a little biddy widdy shove and this "big brave " man goes down like a frikkin baby

"After treatment he was able to continue for the remainder of the game which ended 1-1"

treatment for what, a runny nose from crying probably...pathetic
I think Kirkland went into ...you have been touched ..go down like a sack of spuds, mode . A mode that is now instilled into most professional footballers.

Fair play, that would have got a goal disallowed during the game but on this occasion it made him look soft.
irrespective of him 'going down like a sack of potatoes', the fact still remains, he was attacked.
yes alba , we arent disputing that
I was puzzled how he was NOT arrested at the match. There must have been hundreds of police attending the match and witnessing the attack. How did he evade them and get away?
The very thought had crossed my mind, gromit, and where were the stewards - in the bar?
