There were two other poets on before him: Mike Garry, who was very good Luke Wright who was extremely good. Heavily influenced by JCC, of course.
JCC was, as usual, on top form and had the place in paroxysms of laughter between the poems, which tended to get darker as his set progressed - no complaints from yours truly on that score!
But Beasley Street is one of his absolute classics! Not only that: he treated us to the modern day follow-up wherein the said street has gone through an urban rejuvenation scheme: Beasley Boulevard... :-)
